Maya's POV.
I've always wished I had a brother, but I never expected to end up with two all of a sudden. It's been two days since I met them, and finally, the rollercoaster of events is starting to make more sense. I can vividly recall how our first encounter went down.
It was a beautiful, yet strange feeling. I couldn't help but feel like I had known them forever. Even though I was exhausted after all that drama, there was so much warmth and care in their eyes that I found myself following them back to their vehicle. Maybe this is exactly what I needed - the love and care of a family during my hardest moment. During the ride, I noticed that Adrian had been following us with his Beta. As a crown prince, I expected him to have multiple bodyguards, but it was daring of him to travel with just one. However, looking at how strong he is, I can't say I'm really surprised.
We had a smooth ride back to a nearby lavish palace, which I later learned belonged to Adrian's mother. I was relieved that we had finally arrived at our destination; the journey had been awkward, and I didn't know what to say to them. Throughout the trip, Nico had been looking at me as if I were a lost puppy. I was already embarrassed enough by how I had cried like a baby when I first met them, but thankfully, Elijah was there to help me calm down. I didn't know how to react since I had never had siblings before. It had always just been me, Mom, and Dad. But I couldn't deny that it felt nice.
One of the bodyguards opened the door for us to exit the vehicle. Before I knew it, Elijah was already holding out his hand to assist me. We entered a lavish room, and the attendants promptly brought in tea and savories. I hesitate to refer to them as mere "maids," as they were better dressed than I. I was clearly famished, and I wouldn't have minded having lunch instead. However, it was not appropriate for me to make such a request. I was uncertain about the proper protocol for tea service in the presence of royalty. Was it different from what I was accustomed to? I didn't know. So, I waited patiently while gazing longingly at the cookies that were calling my name.
Nico must have noticed my hunger, as he kindly offered me a cup of tea and said, "Feel free to eat as much as you like, darling." I was delighted by his affectionate gesture, but at the same time, I was nervous. My instincts were telling me to let my guard down, but I wasn't sure if that was wise.
As we sipped our tea, Elijah spoke up. "I'm certain you must be surprised by the sudden turn of events. We were led to believe that you had no interest in meeting us. However, it's now clear that we were misinformed. I'm sorry for what you've been through all this time without us. I only wish we could have met under better circumstances. The person responsible for this will pay!"
I could tell that Elijah was trying to remain calm, but it was clear that he was struggling. I felt compelled to respond. "Yes, I'm surprised, shocked, and quite frankly, exhausted. I don't want to lie to you. I don't think I can act like everything is okay right now. It's all too sudden for me, and I hope you can understand that. As for Nathan, I ask that you don't do anything to him."
Before I could finish my sentence, Nico interjected. "You can't possibly still have feelings for that scumbag!" Elijah gave Nico a stern look and said, "Let her finish." Nico slouched back in his chair with his shoulders hunched.
I cleared my throat and continued, "So, yes, I kindly request that you don't do anything to him, at least not yet." I could see Nico's face light up with joy. "Yes, I want him to suffer, but I'm not finished with him yet. Knowing Nathan, he won't give up easily. He'll likely try to contact me or even convince me to take him back. He's shameless that way. As much as I appreciate having protection, it's not what I need. This is my fight, and I will make him pay on my terms!"
"Anything you say, darling. If that's how you prefer it, then that's how it will be," Elijah replied. From his demeanor, I could already tell that he was a man of his word. The same couldn't be said for Nico, but I accepted it for what it was. Nathan deserved whatever was coming to him.
"I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to catch up on things. We'll leave you to rest and catch up during dinner. Is that okay with you?" Elijah asked. "Yes, that works," I replied. I was escorted to a room upstairs, where I freshened up, and found neatly ironed clothes waiting for me. I slipped into my dress and wandered around the palace, pondering why I hadn't seen Adrian during this time. He didn't even show up during dinner that evening. Perhaps he had understood that I needed space and had decided to move on. The thought pained me, but it shouldn't. After all, I barely knew him. "That's how the mate bond works," Kiara reminded me. "I suppose you're right," I whispered to myself.
The following day I spent alone, as Elijah and Nico were occupied in a meeting with Adrian. I guess that's just how the nobility operates; taking a break when they feel like it is not an option. I was grateful that my brothers gave me space to process everything that had happened, without trying to force conversation or bond with me during those two days. They could tell that I had been through a lot and needed time for myself to make sense of everything.
However, I knew I had to return to my parents. Upon arriving, I immediately called my mother to assure her that I was alright and promised to explain everything once I got home. I could tell she was confused and understandably so. Nathan and his elders likely turned them away without any explanation, but this wasn't unusual for them. My parents had no reason to suspect anything was wrong since they were unaware of the Luna ceremony's significance. Unfortunately, I failed to protect them from the harsh treatment they've been receiving, and they had to endure humiliation again, and this was all because of me.
"I'm worried that Nathan might try to use my parents to get to me. I need to go back before he can fill their heads with anything else," I explained to Kiara, who looked concerned about my safety. After all, she had seen me forgive Nathan in the past, and she must have doubts about letting me be in his presence again, especially after we had finally rid ourselves of him.
"Don't worry. I know what I need to do," I reassured Kiara before getting dressed to meet my parents. As I descended the stairs, I saw Elijah, Nico, and Adrian come out of the conference room. They all looked at me with beaming smiles, which made me feel both uncomfortable and appreciated. I wasn't used to this kind of attention, and my legs almost gave way beneath me. But I took a deep breath and walked towards them.
"Hello, Maya," Nico greeted me, breaking the silence as usual. "Hello, Brother," I replied, and he smiled at me with pride. Elijah, on the other hand, looked a little jealous, although he tried his best not to show it. "Hello, Brother Elijah," I added, and he smiled back at me. They were just like any regular brothers, I realized. What was I expecting?
As I was about to greet Adrian, he beat me to it. "Nice to see you, Princess," he said with a warm smile.
