Chapter One: The mysterious Lady.
"Where am I?"
Zara felt around the place she was lying on, she wasn't awake yet but her senses were all awakened. Her head felt light and there was a rhythmic beeping sound beside her ear.
With her eyes still closed, she tried to recall where she had been before she passed out. And as she did, the unpleasant news she had received then surfaced in her memory.
Whether or not she wanted to keep lying down, Zara had no choice but to wake up. There were too many things hanging on a thread waiting for her.
She was in a small room. The beeping sound had come from an EKG machine beside her. She was lying on a bed, covered by a soft thin blanket. The room she was in was painted yellow and it was easily deciphered that she was in a hospital.
"What am I doing in a hospital?" She thought.
The hospital room looked very clean and dignified, she couldn't hear any form of noise, it was like she was in a graveyard.
Suddenly the door opened and a woman walked in. She stopped by the door as she saw that Zara was awake and staring at her.
"You're awake" the lady pointed out kike it wasn't an obvious fact to the two people in the room.
"Who are you?" Zara had to ask.
The woman did not deliver an answer to her question, but instead, she locked the door and walked into the room with an air of power.
Her shoulders were firm, showing no sign of helplessness, but rather a strong confidence. She wore a three piece women's suit. The jacket was buttoned and gave a good display of her slim waist, while the trousers were fitted but obviously not tight, it was a perfect reflection of her long, nice legs.
"I don't think you should trouble yourself with my identity". She suddenly said,
Zara was fixated on her face, wondering what sort of products she was using to achieve such delicate, silky and shiny skin.
"You seem to be the person that brought me here, since you don't want to tell me who you are, can you tell me where I am?" Zara asked.
The lady looked around the room, her long jet black, wavy hair resting on her shoulder like it was glued there.
"Isn't it obvious?" She asked back rhetorically.
Zara rolled her eyes. When she had woken up, she realized none of her things were with her, she couldn't find anything she was familiar with in the room.
"Where are my things?"
The lady furrowed her eyebrows, "you wish to leave so soon?"
Zara nodded her head, it was the only response she thought was befitting to the woman's cocky attitude.
"You can't leave just yet," she said.
Zara chuckled incredulously but lightly, "why? Is this k********g?"
The lady scoffed, making her way to the window where the sunlight poured in from.
Standing by the window, her skin seemed to glisten under the sunlight, like it was a miracle. She looked over her shoulders to Zara and her green-blue eyes seemed vividly translucent.
"You have nothing that I want".
"Then why don't you want me to go? I have things I need to do".
The woman nodded her head, but then peeled her eyes from Zara, "I am well aware of your troubles. When you get your phone, you'll come to find out that all your shares have been bought".
Zara frowned, her heart unexpectedly racing. It was the news she had been trying to stop herself from worrying about.
Her family's company had gone bankrupt, she had lost everything she ever worked for.
Zara's lips quivered, but her voice was steady, "How do you know?"
The lady shrugged, "same way I know that your stepmother ran away with someone and your father left you a while ago".
Zara bit her lip, she hated thinking about her family problems the most. She could already feel her eyes start to sting, but she couldn't let herself cry in front of an arrogant stranger.
"Who bought the shares from the creditors?" Zara asked her.
The woman swiftly turned around, "I don't want to tell you".
Zara was utterly confused, she looked around the room, unsure of what to do or say to convince the strange woman to tell her who it was that bought the shares.
However, before she could think of something to say, the Lady spoke up, "my assistant has gone to get food for you. You need your strength according to the doctor, that's probably why you passed out".
"I'm not hungry". Zara cuts in.
The woman tilted her head slightly, "if you don't eat, you don't leave this room and if you don't leave this room, you cannot find out about the person that bought the shares and what they need from you".
Zara's interest was sparked, she knew this woman was not telling her everything about what was going on, "they need something?"
She smirked, "would they buy your shares because they have so much money to spare?"
Zara thought about it then nodded her head, agreeing to the woman's words.
Nothing was free in this world and for someone to buy off all her shares from the creditors, it meant that the person really wants something relatively important to her.
Thinking about it, goosebumps appeared on her skin. The person had paid all her debts, bought her shares that were too expensive for her to do. This person might want something she would not give in return and this was what she feared.
"Do you have any idea what they could want?" Zara asked.
The woman gave her a once over, recognizing the look of despair and worry on her face, "are you scared?"
Zara shook her head, "I'm just worried that I cannot give what they ask of me".
The woman went quiet for a while. Zara's worry was something she understood, but then she wished that Zara knew how pertinent what she could offer to that person was.
"Excuse me," the woman walked out of the room.
Zara couldn't even bother herself to ask her why she was suddenly leaving. She had too many problems, she didn't need to add another one to it.
As she laid there on the bed, for a moment, her problems had evaporated. The bed was soft, the sunlight was warm, the air smelled nice and in this room none of the unfortunate things had happened.
Deep down in her, Zara didn't want to eat. She didn't want to eat because she didn't wish to leave the room, she didn't want to come face to face with her problems.
Within those four walls, she was safe, away from the issues plaguing her. She was unbothered.
However, how long would she continue to seek solace there?
The door opened forcing Zara to sit up immediately.
The person who entered was a middle aged man, he wore large glasses and was holding a tray that contained a plate of sliced fruits and a glass of water.
"Oh, you really are awake" he smiled politely and walked into the room.
"You're the assistant?" Zara asked as she watched him drop a white plastic bag and the tray of food on the couch.
"Yes I am. I am Eric".
Zara ran a hand through her auburn hair, "I'm Zara".
Eric brought the tray to her and smiled, "I know Miss Smith".
Zara frowned, obviously confused, "how do you know my last name?"
Eric dropped the tray beside her before walking back to the couch where he had left the poly bag.
"I turned on your phone and a lot of messages came in," he said.
Zara almost jumped from the bed, "my phone is with you?"
Eric nodded his head, "yes, your things are here in this bag" he gestured to the poly bag.
"Can you please help me with my phone?" She pleaded with him.
Eric nodded his head and brought the phone to her.
The phone was turned on and from the notification bar, she saw that she had several missed calls all from two people; Daniel and his mother.
Zara first called Daniel back.
Daniel had been dying of anxiety, he answered the phone immediately the call came in, "Zara, I've been trying to call you, what happened to you? Where are you?"
"I'm fine, Daniel. I'm in a hospital".
Daniel couldn't wait for her to explain, "a hospital? What happened to you?!" He yelled.
Zara shook her head as if he could see her, "nothing serious, I think I only passed out".
Those words calmed Daniel down, his voice was a lot calmer now as he spoke, "okay, which hospital? I'll come get you immediately".
Zara's eyes met Eric's own, she removed the phone from her ear, "what's the name of this hospital?" She whispered to him.
"I'm sorry, he won't be allowed in the hospital".
Zara's face contorted into one of befuddlement, "what do you mean? Why can't he come here?"
"This is a private hospital, it's owned by the Cepheus family".
