THE ROYAL LEGACY – PART ONE: Chapter One   Thaddeus It’s been over a decade since the third great werewolf war. My parents have been very busy handling the matters of the castle, hearing the concerns of packs all over the world, and helping those in need of help. Not to mention bringing up two troublemaker sons. I’m one of those troublemaking sons.  And Moonstone? It has been living in peace since the war. “I swear I didn’t kick that dumb bear!” Well… except for that. That’s Theodore, my twin brother. He’s running the hallway as I descended the staircase with a phone in my hand. “Darn it,” I cursed under my tongue as my phone flew across the main hall when my brother came running down the stairs, heels light and fast against the marble steps. “Theo!” “I’ll get you another one!” he yelled as he ran out of the main door, half naked and with a black t-shirt in his hand. I heard a disapproving low growl behind me and when I turned around, I saw my father. I shrugged at him, denying of anything to do with Theo’s acts the day before. There was no use getting mad about my phone either. That’s one thing about my brother, I can never get mad at him to the point that he and I argue and yell at each other. I would get upset over something and then I would find it go away soon enough. “You two are too old for this kind of stuff,” my father, King Terrence Aurora said with his hands on his waist. I’m sure he got an earful from my uncle Klarence regarding his pet bears living in the lake behind the castle. Uncle Klarence loves his bears like he cares for his pack. King or not, my father is his brother and they are pretty close. Uncle doesn’t have qualms voicing out things that upset him if he knows it’s right to say them. There is a big family of bears living in our pack’s territory. They would go to uncle Klarcence’s pack to visit him and his family once and a while but they always come back to where they were born –by our manmade lake. Over a decade ago, a bear couple decided to live here with their babies. I’m pretty sure Theo and I almost killed the mama bear when we were seven. “He’ll never be too old in causing trouble, Pops,” I said as my feet landed on the main floor. I picked up the broken pieces of my phone next to the French style single sofa in the main hall. I could hear the training of our warriors from the arena built behind the castle. Dad and Pops had it built soon as the castle was done. We still have clearings around the territory as well as the forest surrounding Bella Terra for other types of training. Dad especially likes to train in the forest with Pops. “I mean, as much as he likes to swim in the lake, he should at least respect the other dwellers. Goddess, I can’t believe I’m using your uncle’s words.” Pops shook his head as he reached the ground floor and I chuckled at his action. He straightened his polo shirt collar as he walked towards the main door. He wore a blue shirt and black jeans. Even at his age, Pops still looked as young as he was a decade ago. I continued picking up the pieces from my phone while my Pops told me about getting ready for the full moon hunt tonight. “Got it,” I replied as I held my unusable phone in my hand. Then, I heard Pops open and close the door before leaving. He and Dad were going to one of those weekend dates. Dad and Pops still go to town like a regular couple. I admire that about them. One day, I’ll treat my mate the same way Pops treat Dad. With all the care and the love I could him or her. Hopefully a ‘him’.  I’ve always liked someone and that person is of the same s*x. A few humans who live in town have knowledge about our kind but they keep it to themselves. We have our own written agreement with them. On the other hand, there is a reestablished peace pact signed between the shadows, the werewolf counterpart of a country’s leader and the human leaders. It was broken when the war broke but it’s all good now and we intend to keep it that way. “For the love of Goddess!” I heard my mother say as he came running down the stairs. I chuckled hearing him and didn’t even get to say a word when I felt his mouth land on my hair for a kiss. He dashed out the door so quickly; I didn’t get to say, “enjoy your day!” He’s fast as ever. I don’t know any other werewolf as fast as my mother. But of course, because he’s the golden eyes. I still get amazed by stories of him and Pops’ acts during the war. I could almost see his wolf floating in the sky with Pops’ black wolf, the two of them restoring the balance in the world after all the chaos it has gone through. I smiled as I pocketed my SIM card and brought my broken phone to the nearest trash can which is in my parents’ office. I opened the heavy mahogany door and the strong scent of my brother assaulted my poor nose again. He smelled like three girls busy humping his lap all night. Why does he have to be a player? “Seriously,” I said as I threw my phone in the bin. RIP. “You ran out of the door and snuck back in to get here? What are planning to do now?” I asked with a brewing annoyance. Theo shrugged as he sat on Dad’s swivel chair. Theo and I look just like our father but we got our hair from Dad. The two of us look exactly the same except for our personalities, I guess. “Dad and Pops are gonna be gone for a while.” “Yeah, so?” I asked, already smelling trouble from his tone. He twirled a black pen in his right hand as he smirked while looking at me. “I’m trying to research about the next alpha meeting,” he said nonchalantly. “Really,” I said sarcastically. Every time there’s an annual alpha meeting, Theo and I would escape so we don’t have to attend. As future leaders of the pack, we are obliged to be present on that very important day. It’s not that we don’t like responsibility but Theo can’t stand politics. Additionally, after we turned eighteen, he and I made a promise. We cannot see our childhood friend, son of an alpha until he is eighteen and we are sure he is mate to Theo or I. Sebastian, son of the Silver Pack alphas. His parents always bring him in the meeting. Before we turned eighteen, we realized that we cannot know Sebby is our mate, not yet. We have all kinds of worries over it. What if he’s not our mate? What if he’s mate to just one of us? We will both be heartbroken and we are not ready for it. “It’s going to be within this month. I’m sure the third Saturday,” I said with little confidence. Theo scoffed. “Right. They always have ways to change the date. Or have you forgotten because your face is always buried in books,” he said to me. “Dude! We need to know. We can’t be here on that day!” “Okay, I get it.” I stepped into the middle of the office and took a seat in one of the long black leather couches that faces each other. I thought of how we would know when the meeting is when a knock came to the door. “s**t,” Theo half whispered. I smelled a familiar smell and the two us scrambled to find an exit. “If you two don’t stop harassing my bears, I will bring your Sebby right to your bedroom door today!” We heard uncle Klarence and our chests began to hammer like thunder. We could already picture uncle’s smirk behind the door. “Thought so. And if you’re more cooperative, I would even tell you when the annual alpha meeting is going to be.” “I promise no more bear bullying!” Theo yelled. “I knew it! You did bully my bears! Again!” Uncle Klarence opened the door harshly. Dear Goddess… ______________ chapter 1 ends.
