Chapter 2

THE ROYAL LEGACY – Chapter Two   Sebastian “Seb! Where are you? Seb!” I could hear my brother, Kieran, calling me. I smiled to myself as I sensed him walking close to the river where I’m currently taking a peaceful swim. Every now and then, I would come here to relax my mind. Dad told me that this was his hang out too when he was younger. This was his sanctuary from Pops before they got together as mates. As Kieran’s footsteps came nearer, I swam towards the bank. Lifting my head, I saw him sigh as he leaned against one of trees. “Why do you keep turning your mindlink off?” he asked me. I could sense the worry in his voice he though he tried to hide it. Mindlinking is a unique way our kind communicates with another within a pack. Basically, we talk through our thoughts. We tap into our wolf’s spirit plane and we are able to talk to other pack members. Kieran is my older brother. Years before I was born, he was adopted by my parents. Based on the stories I heard from Pops, Dad, and grandpa Kristoff and grandma Rizza, Kieran’s parents died during the onset of chaos that lead to the third great werewolf war. Even though he’s not my brother by blood, I love him as much as I love our little sister Leigh Anne and he loves us just the same. “I wanted to be at peace,” I said to him. “I won’t be able to do that if I could hear Dad calling my name the minute I’m out of his sight and your voice calling me as if I was taken away by some— “Seb,” he said, cutting me off. I smiled to myself. I felt his steps come closer and as I looked up, I saw him hand me my clothes. “At least have someone with you close by when you’re planning to be alone.” I took my clothes from and after I had gotten off the water. “You’re such a worrywart, Kier. Besides, it won’t be called an alone time if I was with someone you know.” “Is that why even Naya isn’t with you?” he asked. I turned to him after I had put my blue t-shirt and khaki short on. “Exactly.” Naya Red is my best friend. She and I have been inseparable ever since we were in middle school. It was back when two of my closest moronic friends still used to visit me here. Theodore and Thaddeus Aurora. The princes of our kind—the werewolf. I could only sigh to myself whenever I think of those two which is quite often. That is the main reason I come to this lake. If my thoughts of them go deeper that it makes me angry and desperate, I come here to clear my mind. I’m only sixteen and yet thinking of those bastards makes me grow old tenfold each time.  “Seb,” my brother cut off my thoughts. “Thinking about them again?” I rolled my eyes. “No.” “Maybe we should pay them a visit,” Kieran suggested. I scoffed and began to walk back towards our pack house. “You? Voluntarily visiting the castle?” As far as I’ve known my brother, he has hated the guts of Uncle Tim’s twins. Perhaps he is being overprotective of me. Back when we were younger, he always had this scowl when the twins would take me away from him and monopolize my attention. Well, those times are but gone now. They could care less about me now. Bastards. I shook my head. “Y-Yeah,” Kieran said. “I mean, the alpha meeting will soon be held again and this time, we’ll both go.” I turned to my brother. “Did you eat something bad today?” “Seb, I’m being serious.” “So am I. You hate those two and as much as possible, you don’t want to be anywhere them.” He sighed as he walked and I continued to do so as well. “Dad and Pops have already discussed the alpha position with me and we both know I can’t just deny it. I’d push it to you but we both know as well how that ended up the first time.” I gave my brother a pat on his shoulder. He’s a little taller than me. Kieran has grown faster and stronger from when he turned twelve. I heard that he has alpha blood in him from an old and almost forgotten pack where his father used to be part of. Much is still a mystery about him to me. Kieran stands six feet with well-built and toned muscles. Dad personally trains him. Pops try to do the same to me but I’m just too stubborn and slippery. I train my own way. Now Leigh Anne has become their target. She’s only eleven and already on her way to becoming a warrior herself. My brother and I talked about me taking the alpha position but I heavily refused. I went on club hopping with Naya with our fake ID’s that night. Kieran was so worried he searched for me all night and found me next town over. My poor brother. “The alpha seat is for you, Kier,” I told him. “I will support you. Don’t make me your beta the way Pops did to Uncle Kelvin. I can already feel that leading our pack is not for me.” “You can’t be sure of that, Seb.” “I can feel it. It doesn’t feel right, Kier.” My brother was silent after that. Goddess knows I know the reason he is hesitant to take the role. He’s already past twenty and he still hasn’t taken his role as the alpha. He kept postponing it. He won’t have that much time left though. Dad is getting pressured to be the next shadow in the country. He will take it. It’s a big responsibility but as part of the royal family, it will suit him very well. A shadow is a werewolf that leads a country along with the human leader. I heard there is also have representatives from the other shifters but most of us are kept in the dark about them. The other shifters want to keep their presence as hidden as possible. Unlike werewolves, it is hard for the other shifters to maintain a larger population. Witches? Warlocks? My Dad is half-warlock. His mother, my late grandmother, was a witch. His father, my late grandfather, was a white wolf from the royal family. He’s related to uncle Timothee. Vampires? I’ve never met one but I heard they live in colder regions. According to history, they originated in Eastern Europe. They sired or turned humans into vampires and spread across the world. Maybe there are vampires in my country. Maybe not. Dad said they can’t walk in the daylight. I also haven’t heard of any feeding by vampires anywhere near where I live. When Dad becomes the shadow, he will know more about these other creatures. I would love to know more about my late grandmother’s ancestry. After all, I’m a part warlock.   _______________ chapter 2 ends.
