Barnett POV October 20 An unseasonal heat wave had the west coast in a chokehold, and it didn’t look like it would be letting up anytime soon. There wouldn’t be any relief in the form of rain showers either. I grumbled as I peeled off my suit jacket and dropped it in the window of my department issue vehicle, wishing I could do the same with the rest of my clothes. The sun was blazing so hot it could have melted the flesh right off the bone. I wiped at my forehead in a completely useless effort to stop the flow of sweat down my face. Nothing worse than being on a crime scene on a day like today. Especially, the scene of a murder. I did not envy those officers who were first on the scene or the crime scene team that had to gather evidence from the body. The stench of death was strong
