“Mr. Elias.”
The sound of my name brought all four of us to our feet and scrambling forward.
“How is she?” I asked, separating myself from the group and praying that the doctor had good news.
“We were able to find and remove the bullet. It pierced her liver and caused some significant muscle damage. We were able to repair some of that damage by removing a small piece of her liver and suturing some of the tears. However, she lost a lot of blood which complicated matters.”
“What do you mean complicated?” A heavy ball of dread settled into my gut.
“The blood loss caused hypovolemic shock. She was dangerously close to organ failure when she reached the OR and required a blood transfusion while we operated. There can be some lasting effects, but we won’t know if ther
