Avery was much more relaxed when the movie ended despite the twinges of pain that struck every time she laughed. While they made me second guess my cinematic choice, she didn’t utter a single complaint. I supposed that was a good thing, though I’d dare not ask. Asking might allow her to see how uncertain I was about my ability as a caregiver and I needed her to have confidence in me. It was going to take a lot of courage on her part to allow me to help her shower and she couldn’t have courage if she didn’t have confidence in my ability to care for her.
When the credits began to roll, I turned off the television and shifted my body to face Avery.
