Thunder rumbled outside as I tried to lose myself in the story I was writing. It wasn’t working. I couldn’t concentrate. Instead of shutting out the real world and transplanting my consciousness into the fictional, I was stuck between the two. Pushing myself away from my desk, I rose and went to the window, staring out at the trees bending and twisting in the wind. It was an ugly storm and appropriate for the mood I was in.
