CHAPTER NINE After riding in silence for half an hour, Sarah moves Chess closer to Peter. “How long is our ride this time?” She pets Crysta, who must’ve stayed with the horses all night. Peter looks ahead, gripping his reins. “It’s a day’s ride from here. Since it’s so far away, it was the last stop on mine and Luke’s trade route.” He pauses. “If we go to bed late and wake up early, we should be there by late afternoon tomorrow.” He glances at her, clearing his throat. Peter looks ahead of them. Why did Luke never take her with them? With her strength, she would’ve been helpful with loading and unloading.
