Chapter 19
[Eleanor]
Valerio took slow steps from the opposite corner of the large bedroom and came to me, sitting on the bed. He was not keeping any distance and our arms brushed in each other. I was terrified at the sight of the knife in his hands. Had he finally decided I was not worth it and was ready to end me?
“But… Vanessa is not ill. Why am I?”, I whispered, trying to hide the fear in my voice.
“Because Vanessa is feeding. Safely for the humans, I assure you.”, Valerio said and in this moment, handed me the knife.
A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as it was clear my paranoia and fear for my life had gotten the best of me.
“What, were you afraid I was going to use that on you?”, Valerio asked shocked.
“I… I…”, I stuttered. He sounded offended at the idea that I was still afraid of him.
But how could I not be?! The first time I met him a little over a month ago was when I tried to kill him. Then, he raged and threatened me when I left the Tower for a day. He was unstable with me – one moment he was being normal and maybe even kind, like when we had that evening together on his balcony right after I found out he was innocent in my parents’ fate. Then in another moment, he would go all psycho and scare the hell out of me.
“Give me that.”, he said with order in his voice and took the knife back from my hands.
Goodbye world, I will miss you, I am sorry for finally pissing off the King of Clans so much he decided to finally get rid of me.
Panic flooded my eyes and this time I could not hide it. The terror grew even more when instead of lashing the knife through my throat, Valerio pointed it to the side of his neck and the blade cut through his skin.
“What the hell a are you doing?!”, I shrieked and got up on my feet.
“You have to feed, you are weak and getting ill. Or did you thing I was going to kill you… again?”, Valerio asked and stood up tall in front of me.
I took a step back, my mind not able to process what was happening.
“But you are not a human…”, I tried thinking and making up excuses to avoid the fact that the scent of his blood had hit me and washed over me the moment the knife pierced his skin.
“Triads can feed on another Triad even though the effect washes off quicker than when feeding on a human. One more thing you would have read in the books if you had actually opened them.”, Valerio explained while taking slow steps towards me as I was taking steps back away from him. “But… I am the King of Clans so this is the best offer you will get. Nobody has fed from me. Ever. And I have only used my blood to save one life – yours.”
My back hit the wall and I had nowhere to turn. Valerio was standing a few inches away from me and I tried getting past him but his strong arms held me for my shoulders and pinned me for the wall. My legs were shaking and quick short breaths were escaping my mouth.
Valerio was so close to me I could not think or act straight. My eyes focused on the tiny dark red line of blood streaming from his neck. Ocean. Forest. Fire. Why, why, just why was this scent so opiating?! My head got dizzy and the scent swirled around me. I lifted my eyes and met Valerio’s, who was standing one head taller above me, his warm breath on my face.
“It… it hurts.”, I said as I felt a dull pain in my mouth.
“I know. Don’t.”, Valerio took my hand which I had just brought to my mouth and lifted my chin. His words and his breath touched my face gently and I tried looking down and away from his face but it was impossible. The pain in my mouth got stronger, sharper and tears were threatening to escape my eyes.
““Let yourself feel it. It is who you are.”, Valerio whispered gently and leaned down. I held my breath, was he going to kiss me?
Disappointment washed over me as he tilted his head and offered me his neck but the negative feeling disappeared the moment his blood was an inch away from my lips. Ocean. Forest. Fire. I could not control myself, I was not thinking at all, I was not… myself. I parted my lips and slowly took his blood.
Valerio’s body was pressed against mine and his head was buried in my shoulder. Warmth was radiating from him to me and was dulling the pain still pulsating in my mouth. A foreign instinct kicked in and I bit his flesh without realising what I was going, allowing for more delicious blood to touch the end of my tongue. Valerio’s body hardened and he hissed with pleasure.
The sharp pain my mouth disappeared in a moment, leaving only a trail of the slightest memory that it was even there. I could feel a change in my teeth, it was like they were longer and sharper. I pierced the skin of Valerio’s neck, deeper this time, and swallowed the warm liquid which had a rustic taste with metal touch to it. Fire. Fire was burning within me and threatening to destroy me, spreading through every cell, muscle and nerve in my body.
I pushed my mouth away from Valerio’s neck and placed my hand on his cheekbone, lifting his head and looking at his eyes. He stared at me for a long moment before taking a step away from me, taking away his warmth and coldness settling between us.
“Your eyes.”, he said and got me confused. With my legs still shaking and my breathing still quick and hyperventilating, I went to the bathroom and had a look at myself in the large mirror.
My eyes were glowing in dark burgundy red. I just fed on the King of Clans.
And I f*****g loved it.
