Dreams Shift to Reality

Leaving my apartment, I grab my phone and locked the door and started off in a jog towards the high school; it was a mixed school with some humans and other wolves like me. Running and running, I passed the small park on the way to school, a feeling of uneasiness washing over me as I turned to look into the park to find nothing there. Shaking my head and strengthening my resolve I picked up the pace and continued running towards the school; after another 6 minutes of running I saw the school ahead of me. Grabbing my phone out of my back pocket I checked the time to make sure I wouldn't be late. "6:50, I have 10 minutes to get to the school and get in class. I'm close enough now where I can just walk there and make it." Slowing my pace down I casually started to walk towards the school watching it get bigger and bigger as I walked closer to it. Hope High School, the perfect little hell keeping me trapped here; if I didn't have to worry about school and graduating I would have already been out of here, but my parents were very persistent that I at least finish my high school diploma before going back to the pack house and getting ready to take over the Alpha position. They were in for such a shock when I tell them I don't want it and I want to leave. Part of me feels bad for wanting to leave my people, those who have watched me grow into the strong young woman that I am now, but also these were the people who watched my family struggle for years in a broken home. They don't think I hear the gossip but I do; Alpha doesn't love his Luna, child born out of wedlock. Some people even believe that I'm not my fathers child and that my mother had an affair while my father was doing just the same. Either way I just knew I couldn't be here any longer. Reaching the front steps of the school I took a deep breath and prepared to walk up the steps when an arm comes around my neck and puts me in a head lock, ruffling my still slightly damp hair. "You going to stare all day or go in?" I heard Damien, my best friend say. He was the Betas son and my absolute best friend, we just clicked when we were younger like we were fated to be together; but we both knew for a fact that the Moon Goddess wasn't going to put us together because he was already 18 and told me that he still wasn't drawn to me at all which was a huge relief to me. Don't get me wrong, Damien is as attractive as they come, he was probably 6'1" with curly black hair and a sculpted chest; chocolate brown eyes to die for and the personality of a court jester. As all the girls in school would say, he is yummy. To me though, he was still the whinny 6 year old who needed to hold my hand wherever we went. I gave him a fond smile to which he returned until he grunted over in pain; my elbow in his stomach. "Good morning to you too Damien, oh are you alright! You seem hurt!" I gasped as I fluttered my hands over his face, the smile touching my lips as he scowled at me. "You could have said get off or I don't know, warn me maybe?" "Now what would be the fun of that?" Smirking at him I turned and walked up the steps, hearing him take a deep breath before following up behind me. "So how are you doing? Have you prepared yourself for telling your parents?" His voice sounded concerned with a small hint of longing. Damien knew I was planning on leaving this pack, he understood my reasoning behind it but at the same time he didn't want to lose his best friend. He had a ton of friends and was very popular at school but none of them had grew up with him, let alone in a pack of werewolves no less. "Truthfully, I'm not looking forward to it. I know they want me to stay and to lead but I just can't do that; not after what my father did. Don't worry though, I plan to tell them who I'm going to pick instead," I stare him down and wiggle my eyebrows at him. He looked at me for a minute with his head tilted to the side when the words finally registered and his face lit up. I planned to tell him sooner because I knew they would need a leader and Damien is the most trustworthy guy out there, in fact he would be a better leader than I ever would. "Wait, do you mean it? You really want me to take over?" His eyes sparkled as he stared me down, his smile warming my soul. Nodding my head at him and giving him my award winning grin, Damien threw his arms around me and squeezed the life out of me. Releasing me he turned and ran into the building, looking back to give me one more of his dazzling smiles before the doors closed. Shaking my head and staring up at the sky I smiled, at least one person can be happy when I leave. ------- The bell rang for the end of the day, Damien and I caught each other in the halls quickly, him explaining he had to head off quicker due to training at the pack today. I only smiled at him and nodded in the direction of the doors as he briskly made his way out of the building, waving goodbye to me. Shaking my head I made my way over to the girls bathroom and slipped in as the halls were emptying. Goddess, I look so tired. I said to myself checking my face in the mirror. Turning the cold water on I let it run for a few seconds before placing my hands underneath the running water and lowering my head down to splash some cool water on my face. Grabbing a paper towel from the dispenser next to the sink I began patting my face when I looked back up into the mirror and inhaled a sharp breath. The girls bathroom was no longer in the reflection of the mirror, oh no; it was the open nighttime field from my dream with the large moon high in the sky. Staring at the reflection I watched as the trees began to materialize like they did last night when the faintest caw could be heard. I was rooted to the spot, unable to move, unable to breathe. What was this place and why did it affect me so? The reflection seemed to move forward some, as if someone was walking through the dense trees, the sounds of the night soothing my soul. It wasn't until the door opened to the bathroom and in walked two freshman; I whipped my head to the side and looked at them who just returned my look with a smile of their own as they each took their stalls to use. I turned my head back to the mirror to see it was only myself and the girls bathroom reflecting back at me. Why has this been coming up? I don't remember seeing or reading anything remotely close to the description of this place, so why me? Gathering my things I made my way out of the bathroom and down the hallway outside of the school building and on my way back to my small apartment. Feeling nothing out of the ordinary on my way back home I casually strolled down the sidewalk until i reached my home; unlocking the door and slipping in I pulled my shoes off and sat down at my tiny table. Checking my phone I saw my mother texting me asking about going to the pack house to have dinner with her and dad. She knows I hate him with a passion but we still have to look like the perfect Alpha family, besides their only daughter not waning to live with them and planning on leaving soon. An idea popped in my head, maybe I can use this dinner as an excuse to see the pack doctor and ask him about these dreams! One can only hope for answers though.
