Trapped in the shadows

591 Words
That night, Elena couldn’t sleep. She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her thoughts swirling with fear and uncertainty. Viktor’s icy blue eyes haunted her, and every time she closed her eyes, she saw his cold smile, like a predator watching its prey. Outside, the wind howled, and the branches of the trees scratched against her window like claws. A chill hung in the air, but it wasn’t just the cold that made Elena shiver—it was the feeling that something was wrong. Suddenly, a soft tapping sound broke the silence. Elena sat up, her heart pounding. The sound came again, louder this time—a rhythmic knock, like someone tapping on glass. Elena turned toward the window—and froze. Viktor was standing outside, his pale face partially hidden by the shadows. His blue eyes glowed faintly in the moonlight, and his lips curled into a slow, sinister smile. Elena’s breath caught in her throat. She wanted to scream, to run—but she couldn’t move. She was trapped by his gaze, frozen like a rabbit caught in the sights of a wolf. “Let me in, Elena,” Viktor said softly, his voice muffled by the glass but still chillingly clear. “I just want to talk.” Elena shook her head, her hands trembling as she reached for her phone. She fumbled to unlock it, but before she could call Lucien, Viktor’s smile widened. “Lucien can’t protect you forever,” he said, as if reading her mind. “Sooner or later, you’ll be mine. Just like Damien wants.” Elena’s blood ran cold. “Go away,” she whispered, her voice shaking. Viktor tilted his head, as if considering her words. Then, without warning, he pressed his hand against the glass—and cracks began to spiderweb across the surface, as though his touch alone was enough to shatter it. Elena stumbled back, her heart racing. She had to get out. She had to find Lucien. But before she could move, the door to her room burst open—and Lucien was there, his eyes blazing with fury. “Get away from her!” he roared, launching himself toward the window with supernatural speed. Viktor stepped back just as the glass shattered, and Lucien landed in front of Elena, his body tense, ready to fight. Viktor chuckled, a low, mocking sound. “Ah, brother. Always so dramatic.” “This is your last warning, Viktor,” Lucien growled. “Leave. Now.” Viktor raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “Or what? You’ll kill me? We both know you don’t have the stomach for that.” Lucien’s jaw clenched, but he didn’t respond. Viktor’s smile faded, and his expression grew cold. “You can’t protect her, Lucien. Damien will have her, one way or another. And when he does… there will be nothing you can do to stop it.” With that, he vanished into the night, leaving behind only the faint echo of his laughter. Elena let out a shaky breath, her knees buckling as the adrenaline drained from her body. Lucien caught her before she could fall, his arms strong and steady around her. “It’s okay,” he whispered, stroking her hair. “You’re safe now.” Elena buried her face in his chest, trying to calm her racing heart. But deep down, she knew that Viktor was right. They couldn’t run forever. And sooner or later, Damien would come for her—and this time, he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
