The school day dragged on, but Elena could barely focus. Every shadow seemed to stretch too long, every passing glance felt like a threat. After Mia learned the truth, things should have felt lighter—but instead, the tension had only grown.
Lucien lingered on the edges of the school grounds, watching from the distance as Elena moved through the halls. She could feel his presence even when she couldn’t see him. The bond between them pulsed stronger than ever, a constant reminder of the connection they shared—and the danger it brought.
At lunch, Elena, Mia, and Cassie sat in their usual spot by the windows. Cassie, unaware of the supernatural chaos surrounding them, was rambling about her latest crush.
“… and then he smiled at me, and I swear, my heart actually stopped for like, five seconds,” Cassie said, sighing dreamily.
Mia nodded distractedly, her mind clearly elsewhere.
Elena stabbed at her salad with a fork, glancing nervously toward the cafeteria doors. She couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the cafeteria. Elena jumped, her heart racing as she turned toward the sound. A tray had fallen to the floor, scattering food everywhere. But it wasn’t the tray that caught her attention—it was the boy who had dropped it.
He was tall, with pale skin, dark hair, and icy blue eyes that seemed to pierce right through her. He looked up, and for a moment, his gaze locked with Elena’s.
A chill ran down her spine. There was something unsettling about him, something that made her instinctively want to run.
“Who’s that?” Mia asked, frowning.
“I don’t know,” Elena whispered, unable to tear her eyes away from him.
The boy bent down to pick up his tray, but as he stood up, he gave Elena a slow, knowing smile—like he knew exactly who she was.
Elena’s blood turned cold.
“Do you think he’s one of them?” Mia asked quietly.
“I don’t know,” Elena said. “But we need to find out.”
The boy walked away, but Elena couldn’t shake the feeling that he wasn’t just another student. He was something more—and whatever he was, he was dangerous.
After school, Elena and Mia met up with Lucien near the woods. His expression darkened the moment Elena told him about the boy in the cafeteria.
“What did he look like?” Lucien asked, his voice tense.
“Tall, dark hair, pale, with these… icy blue eyes,” Elena said.
Lucien’s jaw tightened. “That sounds like Viktor.”
“Who’s Viktor?” Mia asked.
“A hunter,” Lucien said grimly. “But not the kind you’re thinking of. He doesn’t hunt vampires to protect humans—he hunts them to take control. He’s one of Damien’s allies, and he’s just as ruthless.”
Elena’s heart sank. “Why would he be here?”
“To get closer to you,” Lucien said. “If Viktor’s here, it means Damien’s stepping up his game. He’s not just sending threats anymore—he’s sending killers.”
Mia paled. “So what do we do?”
Lucien’s eyes darkened. “We fight back. But first, we need to figure out what Viktor’s plan is—and we need to do it fast.”
Elena nodded, her resolve hardening. She was tired of being afraid. If Viktor and Damien wanted a fight, they were going to get one.
But deep down, she knew that this was only the beginning—and that the battle ahead would be more dangerous than anything they had faced before.
