The ultimatum

Damien stood at the edge of the woods, a figure of dark elegance and deadly intent. The setting sun painted the sky in shades of crimson and gold, casting long, ominous shadows across the ground. Elena’s breath hitched as she stared at him through the window. Even from this distance, she could feel his magnetic presence—powerful, dangerous, and impossibly alluring. “What’s he doing here?” Mia whispered, her voice tight with fear. Lucien stepped forward, his jaw clenched, and pulled Elena gently but firmly away from the window. “He’s sending a message,” he said grimly. “He wants us to know that he’s watching—and that he’s not afraid.” Elena’s heart raced as she leaned against the wall, trying to calm the whirlwind of emotions inside her. Fear, anger, confusion… and something darker, something she didn’t want to name. “We can’t just sit here and let him intimidate us,” she said, her voice trembling but determined. “We need to do something.” Lucien nodded. “We will. But not yet. We need to be smart about this, Elena. Damien is stronger than any of us, especially this close to the Blood Moon.” At that moment, there was a knock at the door—a slow, deliberate knock that sent chills down Elena’s spine. Lucien was at the door in an instant, motioning for Elena and Mia to stay back. He opened it just a crack, peering outside. To Elena’s shock, Damien stood on the porch, his expression calm and composed, as if he were a polite guest stopping by for tea. “Good evening, brother,” Damien said smoothly, his voice as silky as a shadow. “May I come in?” “No,” Lucien said coldly, his eyes blazing with hatred. Damien chuckled, a low, menacing sound. “Still so hostile. I’m not here to fight, Lucien. Not yet.” His gaze shifted to Elena, who was peeking around the corner. His eyes softened, and he gave her a smile that was both gentle and chilling. “Elena. It’s lovely to see you again.” Elena’s skin crawled, but she forced herself to step forward, her chin raised defiantly. “What do you want, Damien?” Damien’s smile widened. “I’ve come to make you an offer.” Lucien growled, but Elena held up a hand, silencing him. “What kind of offer?” she asked warily. Damien leaned casually against the doorframe, as if he had all the time in the world. “Come with me, Elena. Willingly. If you do, I’ll spare your friends. No one else has to get hurt.” Elena felt as if the air had been sucked out of the room. “And if I don’t?” Damien’s eyes darkened, and his smile faded. “Then I’ll take you by force. And when I do, your friends will suffer. One by one.” Lucien slammed his hand against the doorframe, his fangs bared. “You’ll have to get through me first.” Damien sighed, as if he were disappointed. “Always so dramatic, Lucien. But this isn’t about you. It’s about Elena—and what she wants.” He extended a hand toward her, his eyes locking onto hers. “Think about it, Elena. You and I are meant to be together. You can’t deny the connection between us. You’ve felt it, haven’t you?” Elena’s pulse pounded in her ears. There was a part of her—a dark, traitorous part—that was drawn to Damien, that wanted to step forward and take his hand. But she shook off the feeling, focusing on the truth: Damien was dangerous, and he wouldn’t stop until he had complete control over her. “I’m not going anywhere with you,” she said, her voice steady. Damien’s expression hardened, and for a moment, the mask of civility slipped, revealing the cold, ruthless monster beneath. “Very well,” he said softly. “You’ve made your choice. But remember this, Elena—when the Blood Moon rises, there will be no more offers. No more mercy.” He stepped back, his eyes never leaving hers. “I’ll be waiting.” And then he was gone, disappearing into the shadows as if he had never been there at all. Elena let out a shaky breath, her legs threatening to give out beneath her. Lucien caught her, his arms steady and strong. “Are you okay?” She nodded, though her heart was still racing. “We don’t have much time, do we?” Lucien shook his head. “No. We need to be ready. Because when the Blood Moon rises, Damien is coming—and he won’t stop until he gets what he wants.” Elena straightened, her fear hardening into resolve. “Then we’ll be ready. We’ll fight—and we’ll win.” Mia stepped forward, her eyes blazing with determination. “We’ve got your back, Elena. No matter what.” Elena smiled, grateful for her friends’ unwavering support. But as she glanced out the window, toward the dark woods where Damien had disappeared, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the worst was yet to come. The Blood Moon was approaching—and with it, the final battle for her soul.
