"His green eyes dazzle"
CHAPTER I
GUIDEN MAGO
'It's snowing' I sighed as I looked outside my window, it snowed the day after my 18th birthday, I quickly covered my window's view with the curtain. I love snow but the memories of a vivid story once told to me makes me hate it, 'how dare this snow make my mom feel cold and alone, how dare this snow make her weep while waiting for that green eyed boy' I hate it, I sometimes wish I was there with her to bring comfort and keep her warm, but I came too late, too late in her life.
I stood up from my bed and quickly dressed up, 'this is my last day here, I'll explore this world, something my mom has failed to accomplish.' I squealed. Okay fine, I am a little overwhelmed, I mean, who wouldn't be? After being trapped in this place for 11 years, I can finally go out! I'm finally free, just like how my mom freed herself from that evil witch
To be honest, this place isn't that bad, this orphanage and the people in here helped me a lot after my mom died, they made me go to school and realize my dreams, but this place is also the place where loneliness can freely swallow me whole, we're all strangers here, we tried being a family but no matter how hard we make it seem like we are, it just isn't the family each of us wanted, some children in here counts the days until they can be free and I am one of those children, I waited for a very long time to leave. And today, is the first time I genuinely felt happiness, my freedom has been rewarded to me, after those long years of being trapped.
"Sister Marta! Sister Marta!" I yelled to get the nun's attention who is helping lalita (a girl who rides a wheelchair) have her morning stroll. Sister Marta jolted her head up and yelled back to me "C'mere Shanna! It's your last day today, bid goodbye the children and to us, your sisters" I quickly abide to what she wants me to do.
I bid a short goodbye to my fellow orphan's and to the sisters who took care of me for 11 years. No one cried for we all promised each other to visit after we got out of the orphanage, this isn't our last goodbye, this is just the first of the many. Afterwards, I went back to my room to get my luggage and headed to the door, but before I could leave, Sister Anise, the head nun stopped me shortly. "Child, I want to give you a last favor before you go," she said "if you want you could go to my sister's owned apartment, I'm not gonna ask you to stay there for free, I know you're to proud to ever accept that, but consider this my last help to you, your mom helped me a lot, I owe her this, accept it child, I want to ensure your safety even after you go, knowing where you stay can give me a peace of heart, knowing that you're safe will make me happy"
I hesitated for a bit but as I look at sister Anise's face, I can't help but remember my mother, 'mother would want me to stay safe too..' I sighed and nodded as a sign of agreement.
"I'll stay there if that could help you be at peace, sister Anise." While I held her hand in mine "But I want no help to come after this favor, I can work on my own sister Anise and I have enough savings to rent a room." I continued and then smiled afterwards.
"I'm glad." She replied while stroking my hair. "Now go child, go and have fun" Sister Anise said while pushing me out the door, she really wants me safe, eh?
I waved one last time to the children and the sisters and then turned my body away from their view. This is it, this really is it! I yelled enthusiastically in my mind while walking out the orphanage.
---
So this is how it feels like to walk in a crowded place without any thoughts of the time you need to spend walking and going back to the place you call "orphanage". I feel happy and giddy, it's as if the sun today shines so bright but it doesn't burn my skin, it instead makes me feel warm. I know it doesn't make any sense but that's how it is for me.
'This place has changed so much' I quietly whispered, I used to go to this apartment building when I was 8 with sister Anise, I'm pretty good at directions so I know where I was going despite the fact that it's been years since I last visited this place. Being in here makes me feel nostalgic, it makes me remember those times I visited this place when I was just a child, I used to be so scared with just the mere thought of going inside, the whole building looks so much like a haunted house, it's dark and it feels cold.
But looking at it now, 'things really does change' I mean look at this place now, the black paint they used as the main color for the building was replaced by white, and they also added different colors in painting it, sure fine, the place looks like a nursery with all those bright colors and stuff but it's nice nevertheless.
I went inside the building dragging my luggage behind me, 'wow' I gasped. This is wonderful, it looks so bright and wonderful. I looked around for quite a while and then strode towards the front desk guy, he smiled at me before asking me on wether I would be renting a room.
'Yes.' I curtly said. He then handed me a small hand book on the rooms I would like to choose, all the rooms were good but I know it still varies on the price. After browsing the handbook for a solid 3 minutes, I handed it to him after deciding to pick a not so cheap but not so expensive room in short, the middle class room. It cost $550 dollars but I have to advance my pay for 3 month, so I need to pay 1650. dollars for the first three months in staying here, I didn't think it would be that expensive (an apartment) but I'm sure lucky I saved up quiet alot in those eleven years of unending part time jobs after school.
The front desk guy called another person to show me to my room first before I sign the needed documents in renting the place.
The room was okay, it looks like a small house with all those necessary things needed, a bed, kitchen, bathroom, living room (it also where I think am supposed to eat) I like the room, it feels cozy and there's also running water and electricity so I guess this should be fine for me.
I went back to the front desk and signed the needed papers, before paying my 3 months advance.
After the small orientation of the apartment rules that is needed to be followed and the small talk with the desk guy named John, I went back to my room which is located on the 5th floor and is also coincidentally the 5th room from the elevator.
I quickly laid on my bed and looked up the ceiling, this is only the beginning, tomorrow will be a new day with another bunch of things to do to settle my life and college here.
I grinned, 'renting an apartment was fun' I whispered quietly and then closed my eyes wanting to drift off to sleep and then I remembered, I didn't even took off my shoes and changed my clothes yet, I also haven't unpacked my bags and luggage yet.
I sighed, welp. This is gonna be a long night and then softly giggled, a long night indeed.
-----
'Woah' College sure is big. This college looks like a whole town, it's so big and... I don't know, pretty? But yeah it really is big. This is the first time I'll be going to a private school, I attended public highschool and grade school before which I might add is only possible because of the sponsors of the orphanage, those sponsors helped us go to school, I'm not in the orphanage anymore but the sponsors wanted me to finish so they still chose to pay for my college. I didn't expect them to send me to a private school but it's actually quite better than what I've thought, besides this is the only way I could pay them for the help they've given us.
I asked one of the guards to take me to where I need to go. The guard and I walked quite a while until we arrived on a small room like place but bigger than my apartment. I bid the guard a curt thank you and went inside. Inside, there's a woman who seems to be skimming the documents on her desk, I went up to her and sat in the chair front of her. She jolted her head and asked me what I needed.
After I got enrolled I was walked back to my apartment to sleep the day away but a poster caught my eye.
WANTED: HOUSE MAID
(single, no kids)
LOCATION: FUENTELLA HOMES
($15 A DAY)
CONTACT: +120 xxx xxx xxx
(DOES NOT REQUIRE STAY IN, JUST CLEAN THE CONDO EVERYDAY)
NIGHT SHIFT: 7PM-8PM
MORNING SHIFT: 9AM-10AM
Without any second thoughts, I dialed the number that is printed on the poster, it rang for about 5seconds until a person, preferably a male answered it.
"Hello?" The guy said.
"Uhmm, I'm just wondering if the job is still available." I replied
"It is still very much available." Guy
"If so, may I apply for the job" me
"Yes, you can. I mean, you're in if you have everything that is required as the poster says." Guy
"Well, I do. I'm single, no kids. And yes, I can clean your condo everyday" me
"Then you're in." Guy
"What?! I'm in? No any other interviews?" me
"No. I'm just hiring a cleaner. So no need for a strict interview." Guy
"Okay, but what if I'm a murderer? What if I'm a dangerously unstable person?" me
"Don't worry I barely stay at that condo anyways, I just wanted someone to clean it." Guy
"Aight. But... What if I'm a thief? Would you risk getting your stuff stolen?"
"Nah, that place is nearly empty. The only things in there are house furnitures, nothing small but special, just big things that you can't even bring outside the door, so, yeah." Guy
I can't believe this. I thought I would have my first job interview after getting out of the orphanage today, but it turns out that this guy is quite uncaring about his place and his safety, cool.
"Okay," I sighed
"Don't sigh sweet, anyways I'll send you the condo address and the key code, today. You'll start your job tomorrow. And since you badly wanted an interview, I'll give you that tomorrow, although it isn't really an interview since you're in but it's close to one so yeah, Bye!" He said and then ended the call.
Okay then, it isn't an interview but it's close to one so it's still basically an interview, which is fine for me I guess. I thought while heading back to my apartment.
-----
1... 8... 2... 5... 9... 0... (His door code)
I held the handle in my hand and then twisted it to open the door. Once inside, I noticed that the condo really is empty except for the tv and some other furnitures like sofas. I strode further inside until I noticed a man's back on me. He was busy watching something on the TV monitor. I went in front of him to greet him which might've startled him because he shrieked a little.
"Who are you?" He asked. While looking into my eyes. Who am I? Oh yeah, he still didn't know me.
"My name is Sashanna, I'm the girl you talked with yesterday on the phone," I said but he still looks confused. "The maid, cleaner?" I continued, his eyes suddenly lit up. Yey! He finally got it.
"You're that girl yesterday, I didn't expect you to look so... Young" he said, his eyes taking in my body.
"I'm 18, I'm legal." I said while smiling down at him since he's still sitting on the sofa.
"Woah, I'm relieved. For a second I thought I'm a hiring a minor, 18's still young but you look younger. Anyways, I'm Guiden Mago Fuentella, 36." He said while dangling his right hand in the air for which I assumed was for a handshake. I took his hand and shook it.
"So, Sashanna. Since you badly wanted an interview , I'll give you one." He said while his green eyes remained intently staring at me.
He then started asking me questions about my past works and the like, he asked about basically every practical questions an employer will ask his employee.
After we talked, he asked me to clean the place while he observes me. Now, I didn't actually mind the interview questions but I definitely felt uncomfortable when he stares at me while I'm cleaning but I tried to act nonchalant about it. I continued cleaning only to find myself constantly locking eyes with him.
After I had done cleaning, I put the tools I used to the storage room.
Guiden Mago, my boss did stop his staring game, but now, he's completely in trance watching a movie, but the sudden shout of his name broke him out of his trance. I was the one who yelled, it was because he didn't seem to hear a thing about what I'm saying.
"Uh, yes?" He asked.
"I'm done cleaning, can I go now? I'll come back tomorrow." I said
"Okay sure, I'll come back tomorrow too.." he replied which earned a frown from me, I thought he doesn't visit this place that earnestly, why is he suddenly interested in coming back?
"But you said..." I prolonged the end of the sentence, hoping an answer for him and sure enough I did get an answer.
"It's for your interview, it's still not done yet" he said and sat back up in his sofa, he then looked at my eyes as intently as I did on him, he broke away but I followed his gaze "Bye sweet, I mean... Sashanna." He said. While I glanced back at his eyes..
I don't know but...
His eyes....
"His green eyes seems to dazzle" I whispered into the wind while I ventured my way back to my place.
~~~~~
"What are your preferences in men?"
"Is that supposed to be a part of the interview?"
"Are you questioning my authority in the questions that 'I' make?' "
"No. Not, sir. I don't have any preferences, I just want the guy's age to be close to mine. 2 year gap in both older and younger men is fine, 3 years and above is, well... Too much"
"And why do you not like older men?"
"It's not like I don't like them, it's just that I preferred younger guys since I'm just 18, starting a relationship with someone who can relate to you when it comes to life in a teenagers perspective is cool."
"Oh okay, but would you somehow date someone older than you someday?"
"Seriously, why are you asking? Are you like, interested in me?"
"N-no, no, no. You're too young. I like experienced women, and besides, you're not my type."
"That answered your question, you're older so you prefer older women, and since I'm younger, I prefer those who are as young as I am. So, no. I don't think I will, men your age are just not my type."
"Sashanna, dating older men are cool too, you know"
"And that peice of information is at importance to me, because?"
"God, you're cold."
"Not really. It's not that chilly in here, as a matter of fact, it feels kinda warm."
"Ugh"
