A Second Chance

(Warning: there will be talk of miscarriage and death through the book if you can't handle that please don't read) “Run Viv run!” My mother screamed. a bunch of rogues had attacked our pack when I was only 10. My brother and I ran but we lost our parents then while trying to protect me I lost my brother as well. That was the day I became an orphan. I wake up screaming and sweating, the same nightmare I have been having for the past 12 years. I sighed and checked the time, it was only 4:30 which meant I had an hour before training so I decided to get up and just take a walk around the packgrounds. My name is Vivian White when I was 10 my whole family was murdered by rogues and I became an orphan. The alpha and luna at the time took me into the packhouse and raised me as family. When I turned 18 I gained my wolf Zara, she is my best friend. I don't know what I would do without her. Then Christian Miller, the son of Alpha Landon and Luna Marie took over the pack. The day he became alpha he appointed his beta and gamma. You see my brother was supposed to be his beta as my father was alpha Landon’s beta but now that they are dead I was asked to take their place. It is not common to see a woman as a beta but I felt like it was my responsibility to take on the role so I did. Conner King was then appointed as gamma; he is a long standing friend of Christian. A few months after Christian was appointed alpha he found his mate Josephine Black, daughter of alpha Logan Black of the dark woods pack. They were so happy to finally find each other and soon she was welcomed into the pack as Luna and then got married months later. While helping out with pack business I also started taking classes at the local college to become a doctor; something my parents always wanted me to do. 2 years into college I met my mate alpha Luke Thompson of the crescent wolf pack. He became my world the moment his scent of freshly fallen rain on a spring night hit my nose I knew he was the one. I would move into his pack and become his Luna. Life was amazing. I couldn't be happier. The day of graduation soon came, almost the whole pack came to see me walk across the stage receiving my M.D degree and officially becoming a doctor. Oh did I forget to mention I am also engaged to the love of my life? Yep! He popped the question a year into our relationship and I couldn’t say yes any faster. I have also found out I am pregnant. I found out 2 weeks before graduation so we decided to move the wedding up so I am not too pregnant to fit my dress or so I wouldn’t be too pregnant for our honeymoon. But all that is about to change………. While driving home Luke and I were ambushed by a pack of wild rogues causing us to get into a terrible accident, our car flipped probably 5 times knocking us both out. Waking up we are both being held down by heavy silver chains and the stench of wolfsbane was everywhere. Luke assured me everything would be alright but something told me it wasn’t. Soon the doors burst open and in walks a rogue we knew as Xythan. He used to be a part of the pack but when we found out he was planning on killing Luke to become alpha we quickly banished him making him a rogue. Since that day he has been sending threats but that’s all they were threats…..or so we thought. His laugh was evil as he walked closer, a silver knife in one hand and wolfsbane in the other. “Xythan” Luke growls and tries to break his chains but Xythan laughs walking over to me, “ah ah ah alpha one wrong move and your mate gets it” he says as he yanks my head back by my hair and holding the knof to my throat. Luke growls but I shake my head at him pleading with my eyes to not fight him for the sake of our unborn child. Luke would soon calm before glaring at him “What do you want?” Luke growls Xythan laughs, “I want to be alpha and I will become alpha once you are dead claiming your mate as my luna and filling her with my pups.” he laughs then runs his nose over my mark I shiver in disgust and cry silent tears. For days we are kept in a cell, and for days he would come down demanding to be named alpha but when Luke refused he would beat him while I was forced to watch. The night everything changed was when Xythan found out I was pregnant. He was furious and walked over grabbing me by my hair and starting beating me instead while Luke was made to watch. I tried to protect my stomach but he finally injected wolfsbane into it and I instantly felt the pain of my baby dying. I screamed and cried as he threw me down. Luke saw red and ran over to him but before he could attack Xythan stabbed him and that was the last thing I saw before I blacked out from the pain. I woke up in a white room. The sound of machines going off around me. I groan and try to sit up but I feel a hand on my shoulder “easy Luna” I hear the voice say. Turning my head I see Garrett Luke’s beta beside me, “Garrett?” I whisper confused then look around “where’s Luke?” I ask. He sits on the bed and takes my hand “Vivian Luke…..” I see tears forming in his eyes. I shake my head, “no……no he…..he” “he’s dead Luna I am so sorry Xythan stabbed him with a silver dagger and with all the wolfsbane in his system he couldn’t recover” I couldn’t hear anything after he was dead the world around me began to spin and my ears rang. My body began to shake and my hands wrapped around my stomach “my baby?” I whisper and he shakes his head “I’m so sorry Luna” and that was all it took. I started screaming as I felt my world began to crumble before me.
