It was hard for Jessica to engage with people, so Angie's enthusiasm made her ill at ease. Seeing Orlando come over, she felt as if seeing a rescuer. When she ran, she didn't realize how dependent on him she was.
Seeing her hold his arm, Orlando raised his eyebrows and smiled, "Mom, don't scare my wife away."
Angie rolled her eyes at him and said, "Stop talking nonsense."
While chatting and laughing, a female voice suddenly said at the door, "Orlando!"
Jessica looked over and saw Helen looking at them in a wheelchair. Her small face was pale. She looked like a fragile, pretty doll when she lowered her eyes.
Orlando frowned at her thin clothes and asked, "Why aren't you resting in your bedroom?"
He picked up a blanket, covered her, and continued, "You just left the hospital. Don't catch a cold."
Helen weakly smiled, "I'm fine."
Then, she wheeled the wheelchair to Jessica, stared at her, stretched out her hand, and said, "Are you Jessica? Nice to meet you."
Jessica guessed Orlando had told Helen about her. She disliked Helen and disregarded her outstretched hand.
Seeing this, Orlando rubbed her waist, his lowered voice, and whispered, "Helen is greeting you."
Jessica raised her head. Meeting his displeased eyes, she smiled and parted her red lips, saying, "It's none of my business."
She was implying he should coax Helen by himself.
When the atmosphere became awkward, Helen smoothed things over and said, "It's OK. Jessica and I have never met before. I understand she feels strange to me."
She sounded kind and broad-minded.
"It's time for lunch." Angie's sudden voice broke the eerie atmosphere in the living room. When Orlando wheeled Helen to the dining room, Jessica followed behind them and stared after the loving siblings.
During the meal, Helen suddenly said, "Mom, my friend will come later."
Jessica felt Helen glance at her while speaking. But she thought it might be an illusion.
"He is my…"
Before Helen could finish speaking, a male voice interrupted, "Helen."
Cason was standing at the door with a bag in his hand. He was stunned to see Jessica but soon beamed with joy.
Helen cheerfully said, "Cason, please come in and sit here."
Jessica keenly noticed Orlando's face darkened.
Helen pulled out a chair for Cason.
After sitting down, Cason handed her the bag and said, "Here you are."
When he had been on the to the company, he had suddenly received Helen's message. She had told him she had left her medicine in the hospital and asked him to help her fetch it.
He had not expected to meet Jessica here and got excited. He hadn't seen her for days. Because of Gail, she had stayed in the hospital most of the time. And she had not hired a carer until starting her internship.
"Jessica."
Cason had tried to talk to Jessica several times, but she ignored him. So, he frowned. When she got up and went to the bathroom, he couldn't help leaving his seat.
In the bathroom, Jessica looked at herself in the mirror. Today was undoubtedly the best opportunity to break up with Cason. And everything would be fine after she did it. But she couldn't help feeling sad at the thought of his pathetic face.
"Jessica." A sudden knock on the door made her return to her senses.
She took a deep breath and opened the door. Before she could speak, Cason hugged her and said with grievance, "Why did you ignore me during the meal?"
Jessica closed her eyes and pushed him away.
Cason became anxious, so he grabbed her arm and said, "I can explain it."
He was afraid she would misunderstand, so he told her Helen had committed suicide after he had rejected her.
"I feel guilty. She was injured because of me. I wouldn't have come if she hadn't insisted on me fetching the medicine for her. Please believe me."
There was a hint of pleading in his voice.
Jessica felt depressed. She prevented herself from looking back and coldly said, "Cason, there is no need to explain. Can't you see I want to break up with you?"
Then, she smiled, "I hooked up with a rich man. He can pay for my mother's medical expenses, so I sold myself to him."
After she shook off his hand and walked away, he hysterically shouted, "Jessica!"
Orlando had long stood at the corner. Seeing her so discouraged, he chuckled, "Tsk tsk, he is deeply in love with you."
Jessica did not care what he thought, so she walked past him. But he grabbed her hand and dragged her into his arms. Then, he stretched out to pinch her chin, lowered his head, heavily bit her lips, and asked, "Do you like him so much, Jessica?"
It was the first time for him to call her in such a serious tone.
"Don't forget you are a married woman."
When Jessica returned to the dinner table, she had calmed down. She ate in silence because she did not want to cause trouble. But someone disliked her and wanted to make trouble for her.
After Jessica had gone to the bathroom, Cason and Orlando followed her one after another. They had left for a long time. Seeing Jessica return with a wound on her lips, Helen stared at it and asked, "Jessica, is the ground too slippery? Why did you break your mouth?"
Hearing this, everyone turned to look at Jessica. And the atmosphere instantly became weird. Jessica felt it was ridiculous, thinking she should not have come here or let his sweetheart bully her like this.
She put down the fork, got up, and said, "Sorry, I need to go now."
With an aggrieved face, Helen lowered her eyes and asked, "Orlando, did I say anything wrong?"
"It has nothing to do with you. Enjoy your meal."
After finishing speaking, Orlando got up and followed Jessica out.
As soon as Jessica reached the door, he grabbed her by the arm from behind and gloomily asked, "You can't control yourself while meeting your old flame. Are you still in love with him? Do you want to get back together with him?"
Jessica felt tired. She broke free from his grip and begged, "Can you please leave me alone?"
But the more she behaved like this, the angrier he became. He began to speak without thinking when his emotions got out of control.
"Jessica, who do you think you are? Do you think you have the right to lose your temper before me?"
"I know I don't have such a right. I am a toy you bought for half a million. So I can't feel upset or wronged. And I can't..."
Orlando blocked her unfinished words with his mouth. The wound on her lips still hurt. While kissing her, he pressed her against the car door and said, "You asked for it."
Then, he opened the car door and forcibly pushed her in. Helen happened to see the scene when coming out. When she stared at the car, an unknown emotion flashed across her eyes.
After a moment, she said to Cason beside her, "I remember Jessica is your girlfriend. Why is she so intimate with Orlando? I saw them kissing just now."
Cason remained silent and looked depressed.
