Chapter five
Vivian’s point of view
The dawn came into view with my alarm blasting loudly in my ear and having my eyes flapped open. I yawned lazily dragging my arm up and slamming the button that turns the alarm off.
I sat up rubbing my eyes lazily, I didn’t get any good sleep good lord. Things can’t keep going like this, when is my miracle going to happen.
Thoughts on what my sister told me yesterday graced into my memory, I have no idea our rent for this month is due; it just never crossed my mind.
I walked into the bathroom cleaning myself up before starting preparation to live another awful day. My bath was quick and so was my getting ready.
I opened the door to my sister’s room to see her surprisingly awake, an awed expression morphed onto my face looking at her awoken self. “Why are you awake this early?” I asked, the weirdness I felt from her being awake visible in my voice.
She turned at the heard of my voice, a grin stretched itself on her small face. “I just don’t want more stress for you,” she replied in her timid low voice. I chuckled lowering my head.
“Be fast Sally, I’ll go make you something now,” I declared turning my back and making my way over to the kitchen.
I settled on making a quick and not time consuming food named Sandwich for breakfast, I brought out the mini ingredients while shutting my mind off the negative thoughts polluting my mind.
My favorite music played in my head with my body dancing to the tune while I skipped around the kitchen making breakfast. A loud knock on the door slithered my attention, I wondered who could be there because we’re not the one to have visitors.
I cleaned my hands going to the parlor and over to the door. “Who is that?” I asked loudly before unlocking the door and pulling it open, I can’t just open up our door for a stranger.
“Open the damn door kid!” The male voice came out hard rhyming with his continuous pounding on the door. I rolled my eyes unlocking the door and opening it to the bald headed short ridiculous man that calls himself a nice landlord.
“Good morning,” I forced myself to greet him, trying to maintain a good facial expression and not display how disgusted I am with his presence.
“I don’t think you got my message, I want my money before today ends or you should start packing your luggages.” The man said in his stupid calm collected voice that will makes a stranger defines him as a nice person. I scoffed inwardly at the thought of that, I remember vividly the last time he was nice to us, and that’s the first day we met him and move in into his house, that was the first and the last time he was nice to me and my family.
“I work in a restaurant where I got paid monthly sir, please you’d have to wait for the month to end before I can give you anything sir,” I tried reasoning with him, the least he can do right now is chase us out, there’s nowhere I can borrow a dime to settle him even if I try to.
“I heard you have a job now, working in that wretched restaurant,” he remarked glaring hard at me, I held on to my pleading look hoping his mind is already changing. “A little advice for you kid, there’s this newly opened bar down our street, I heard they’re looking for strippers and the pay is good, I advice you checked that out and get a hold of yourself and stop being decent. I’m giving you until tomorrow or else kiss my house goodbye.”
If his eyes could kill I would be ten feet deep right now judging from on how badly he was looking at me. “Thank you,” I told him, acknowledging his almost irrational advice.
He hissed at himself not me before turning away and striding his way out of my sight. I sighed slamming the door closed in annoyance, going back to the kitchen to finish what I was doing.
I had alternatives already, I won’t work as a stripper just because I had ends to make meet, never and ever. I will borrow some cash from Amber and add it to the money have been saving up for awhile now, that should be enough to settle the rent for this month and half of next month perhaps, and when the months end and I got paid I will repay Amber and use the rest as budgeted.
I went back to the kitchen and finished everything I was doing. I need to go check the money I’m saving to know how much I’d be needing from Amber, getting to my room I went straight to where I kept it under my bed, dragging the box out I flipped it open to see all my cash gone and nowhere to be seen.
My brain shut off immediately, standing up I began ransacking my room to see if I changed the money location and forgot about it. Soon enough my room was turned upside down, everything became a mess real quick.
Sally came in just in time to see me running around my room like a mad woman while looking for something. “Are you okay?” She asked with concern taking notice of my messed up state.
“Sally I can’t find my money!” I said, trying not to believe what I just said myself. I sank on the bed gripping my hair tightly and trying to remember if I changed my safe location.
“Where did you keep it?” She asked coming close to me.
“In this box Sally, here.” I pushed the box towards her for her to take a look. “Who took my money?” My voice came out disorganized asking myself that.
“You know I don’t really know, but I saw mom yesterday coming out of your room with this box and looking suspicious,” she told me in a scared kinda voice, she’s never seen me this pissed off and angry before.
“Oh no she didn’t,” I stood up storming out of my in anger, I got to the living room at where she’s laid on the large couch. “Mom!” I called aggressively, holding myself back from bending down and strangling her to death.
She grunted shifting around uncomfortably before sitting up and acknowledging the blazing eyes glaring at her. “Did you touch my money?” I asked in a very low voice, anger cussing through my bones.
Studying my angered features she bursted into fake tears I’d say. She cried covering her face, I snorted restricting two inches backward and awaiting the explanation that comes after this.
“Answer the damn question mother!” I yelled angrily, my gaze shifted away from her to the bag beneath the small table above the couch. That’s bag she kept her drugs and all, the last time I saw that bag was yesterday morning and it was low and almost empty and right now the bag is full.
I grabbed the bag opening it to see all kind of toxic drugs filled in the bag. My lips parted in shock when realization of what my mother used the money she stole from me to buy dawned on me. I couldn’t say a word and just stare at her with my anger washing away and tears seeping into my eyes.
“I was gonna pay our rent with that money,” I scoffed in tears, “How great of a mother are you now that we’ll be living on the streets tomorrow.” I spoke with so much resentment that I wish I could say more.
What exactly am I gonna do now.
Richard’s point of view
So far today is about to be over and I could use one or two words to describe how my day has been. Fun and exhausting, it was fun from how energetic I was towards everything, and the exhaustion I got from being energetic.
I adjusted myself firmly, grabbing my jacket on the chair I slid it across my shoulder holding it with my index finger. I walked majestically heading to the elevator with my other hand dipped inside my pocket.
She ran quickly ahead of me opening the elevator for me to enter, I entered with her coming in lastly. I stared over at her realizing how much stress I put her through today, her punishment days are not over, in fact they just begin.
I got down heading straight to my car not failing to notice people’s eyes feeding on me. I guess they weren’t bloated yesterday and continue the eat-look today.
All through today or since I laid my eyes on her my mind have been occupied by her, I just couldn’t erase her face from reappearing in my memory, and I found myself parking meters away from the eatery building. I got down walking into the small building and marching straight to the counter.
Surprisingly she wasn’t there, my eyes roamed through the space and corners looking for her when it landed on some group of girls gathered around someone in a corner. Is it possible she’s among those girls obviously bullying someone or the one getting bullied.
I stood up going out of the restaurant and walking round it to get a better understanding of what I saw. Getting to the backyard I strained my sight to see the lady kneeled on the ground with different girls surrounding her poking her with words and their fingers while she cries. Her face raised up revealing who she is. She’s the one getting bullied.
I was about to interfere when a redhead from nowhere showed up and have all of them backing away. I moved closer hiding myself from getting seen.
The redhead dragged her up and sat her down with her, she removed the bag behind her handing it over to her. She collected it bursting into tears. “Hey Vivian, are you okay? You know those girls ain’t worth all this,” The redhead tried to console her, she place her arm around her shoulder drawling her closer and engaging her in a side hug.
Pity shot into my emotions as I stared at her wishing I can get to her and just tell her ‘everything is going to be okay’ I can see through her eyes that she’s going through a lot, I can see her pains through her eyes.
“They’re honestly the least of my problem,” she sniffed in between her words, “Our landlord came by earlier this morning asking for rent, and I have this money have been like saving up for awhile now, and it seems like a perfect time for me to use it and pay the man, only for me to found out my addicted mom already stole the money and used it to buy drugs, and the man said he’s chasing out tomorrow if I don’t pay him,” she finished talking as she bursted into another heavy tears.
I couldn’t contain the amount of pity in me for her, I wish to go there and help her out and not look creepy. Because how would I say I heard of her problems.
“Okay that man needs to hear some words from me, the least he can do right now is for him to be understanding at least. The month isn’t near end for Pete’s sake. I’ll be right back and don’t let those bitches do anything to you. You hear me now Vee.” She flared up, turning it to a warn at the last part.
An idea crossed through my mind on how I can help her, I smiled at the thought of that. She doesn’t have to know me before I can help her, I just have to follow this her friend and sort out with the landlord privately.
I ran back quickly to my car taking some cash with me and running before I lost sight of the Amber girl. I walked so normal not giving an hint I’m following while she just stormed so fast visibly angry for no reason or towards the landlord perhaps.
The walk wasn’t too far surprisingly, she got to a door knocking harshly on the door, the door opened revealing a bald headed man. She began yelling and yelling at the man not giving him a chance to speak at all, she continue yelling until she’s done and turned her back walking away.
The man just stared speechlessly at her unable to say anything, I took the speechless chance in appearing in front of the man.
“How much is the girl owning you?” I asked, with an intimidating aura from nowhere surrounding me. The man gulped looking up at me trying to find his voice back and read the man standing in front of him.
He blinked continuously, “Which girl?” He managed to ask.
“Vivian,” I gave a cold response, staring blankly at him.
“Who are you?” He asked, taking his eyes off me.
“That wasn’t my question, how much is the girl owning you?” I repeated, taking a step closer to him. He shifted in vivid fear looking back up at my face to see me staring deep at him.
“A thousand bucks, no I mean $1250, that’s how much she pay for the apartment,” he shivered, my looks affecting his reply to me.
I scoffed silently, dipping my hands into my pocket I brought out the cash I came with and counted the whole of $14,000 dollars and slammed it into his palm. “That should be enough to get her undisturbed for the whole of this year. Isn’t it?”
He nodded in apprehension, I thought he was gonna be the wicked landlord and not a man that got intimidated by my voice and looks. I gave him a pat on the shoulder.
“And oh, don’t reveal this to her, just tell her her house bills is sorted out and she shouldn’t worry about anything. If she began snooping, then I’m coming for you.” I leaned, whispering into his ears.
With that said I turned my back walking away from there. Glancing back the man scurried inside closing his door.
I smiled feeling relieved by what I did.
