Chapter Seventeen The drive back to New York was one of the few times that the two friends enjoyed being in a car. For more than three hours, they kept teasing each other and Mary as well, recalling a few, happy memories from the orphanage. Despite their best efforts though, the young blonde was not as amused as they were. Obviously still mourning the loss of her fiancé, Mary laughed a few times, briefly, unlike Sean who giggled almost throughout the drive. The sad look in her eyes gave Johnnie a good idea of how losing someone close to you felt. He wasn’t expecting her to be so distraught; Mary had always been a strong, confident girl, but it appeared that the death of her beloved David had broken her up inside.
