Chapter Eighteen The devastated man returned to his small house on the edge of town. Johnnie was so sad that he would not talk to anybody, not even Sean. Furthermore, he was unwilling to be seen so distraught. Unable to come to grips with the heartbreaking truth, he would not pick up his phone, eat or sleep. Johnnie was determined to get out of his house only when necessary. Hours later, he went to the clubhouse with a brown bag full of cash and a heavy heart. His comrades’ reaction stopped troubling his mind, when he read Susan’s letter. Their relationship was over; everything else seemed trivial. Nonetheless, Johnnie was there for a reason.
