Chapter Twenty-Six Carol’s guests left a while later. Sean and Mary said ‘goodnight’ to her and Johnnie, but he would not go back to Cornwall with them. He had never spent a night under his mother’s roof and wanted to do just that. Therefore, he said “goodnight” to his friends and watched, as they drove away in Mary’s car. Somewhat dizzy, but overflowing with joy, he would not stop smiling. But still, Johnnie could simply not forget what his friend what told him earlier, about ‘who else he needed’. It was Susan that had made this possible and she was not there. He had not spoken about her to his mother. Just when he was about to verbalize though, Carol closed her front door behind her and turned to him. “I hope you had a good time tonight.” She grinned. “Yeah, thanks a lot.” He sighed.
