1. Tom Rosslin
DEC. 13, 2024: It was a dark & stormy night. That's a lie. It was actually a wonderful winter day, and even more wonderful by the fact, that Winter Break had begun for Alexandre Gagnon High School of Calgary, Canada. Tom Rosslin had just gotten out of class, finally letting go of all academic pressures that had once ensnared the diligent senior high school student. Winter Break began for Gagnon a week too early, because they began the school year a week too early.  (Tom... Relax yourself... You finally finished all your assignments, so that you can relax yourself until Jan. 2, 2025.) As per his usual routine, he was planning to visit the local Tim Horton's cafe, to meet up with his best friend & current roommate, Sarah. So, he walked his usual route, from Alexandre Gagnon High School to Tim Horton's. But, on his way there, he hears an ominous sound.  "Tom... Rosslin..."  He tried to overlook the sound that he had just heard. But then, the sound had returned to ring in his mind, and strike his curiosity.  "Tom... Rosslin..."  He thought it was just someone playing some kind of prank, so he decided to investigate the snowbank, where he heard the sound, expecting to see a classmate holding an ethereal-esque green light projector or something.  "Tom... Rosslin..." He sees that it was an olden wristwatch that looked like it was made in 12th century Camelot. It was glowing, with its oddities, as well as its green light. He decides to investigate it.  He attempts to read the inscription on it, though it was in some runic gibberish: "ᛚᛁᚴᛖ ᛏᚺᛖ ᛈᚺᛟᛖᚾᛁᛪ ᛟᚠ ᚨᚲᚨᛞᛖᛗᛁᚨ, ᛁᛏᛋ ᚺᛖᚱᛟ ᛋᚺᚨᛚᛚ ᚱᛁᛋᛖ ᚨᚷᚨᛁᚾ!" But then, the bezel of the watch had spun, and stopped with a Latin translation saying:  "Ut Phoenix ex Academia, heros suum oriri super iterum!"  Then finally, in English...: "Like the Phoenix of Academia, its hero shall rise again!" (What the hell is this? Does this belong to someone?) He was inquisitive about why there was some random olden wristwatch in a snowbank in the middle of Calgary. It was something interesting for him to think about. Due to his unfounded curiosity, he planned to go back home to his apartment, to further investigate the mysterious wristwatch. He whipped up his phone, to text Sarah that he would go straight home, instead of being at Timmies. She responds to his text, and she says that she'll be in the apartment as soon as Tom arrives.   He was already on his way to apartment, with the energy to the end the curiosity that was consuming him.  From the snowbank near the mysterious wristwatch, a woman jumped from it.  "The Circum Relic, chose its first Canadian, ...and he's a teen, Oh Gaussian, this is going to be difficult... I've never trained anyone before..." she muttered to herself.  AT HOME: Tom had arrived at his apartment. His roommate, Sarah was already there, waiting for him, because she knows that whenever he asks for her help, she knows it's seriously stupid. He walked to his table, closing the door, windows, curtains, etc., and making sure Sarah brought nobody. He placed the mysterious wristwatch on the table. "What a beauty, eh? I picked this up on the way to Timmies. I found it in a snowbank, and for some reason, it was calling out my name... I heard my name, 'Tom Rosslin' called out 3 times, before I picked it up."  She thought what she heard was full of bull, so she asked him to describe the particular wristwatch more. "Well, when I came to look at the wristwatch, it looked like it was in some fantasy language, like Draconic, or Runic, or something. Then, its bezel spun around, and it changed to Latin, saying. 'Ut Phoenix ex Academia, heros suum oriri super iterum!', then it translated to English. It said, 'Like the Phoenix of Academia, its hero shall rise again!'. I don't know why it was calling out for me, or why it was glowing green in the first place... All I know is something's up with this wristwatch, and I'm gonna find out. Try searching up what this could be..." he explained, in detail.  Whilst Sarah got to her laptop, to search for anything regarding the mysterious wristwatch, Tom analyzes it, down to the minute details.  The wristwatch was moving normally, second, minute, & hour hand in correlation with Calgary time, with the numbers being Roman numerals. There also seems to be a background compass rose, and a compass arrow within its interior. There was nothing unusual about it, other than its wooden texture, and its lack of a latch.  Curious to see how it looks, he fits it on his wrist, but the size was a little bigger than his arm. Suddenly, the wristwatch constricted itself to his arm. He called for his roommate, from the other room, because he needed help to get the cursed thing off his arm. She rushed to the kitchen, and came back with butter. She coated his arm, in the thick, delicious, butter. "How did this even get stuck in the first place, eh? Wasn't this bigger than your wrist earlier, eh?" she wondered, while tirelessly pulling the cursed thing from his arm. She was still searching for ways to remove it from his arm, but by that time, someone knocked on their door.  There was someone at the door. They had to forget their current predicament, and entertain their guest. They opened the door. "Sorry for the delay, eh. Please, come in.", he wondered, as he entertained the other redhead's presence.  The mysterious guest came inside, and she sat down on their couch. She said that her name was Connie. The residents introduced themselves to her, to get things out of the way. "So, I hope you don't mind, eh, but I will go get you some tea. Tom can keep you company, eh?" Sarah assured, while heading to the kitchen. Tom was still trying to remove the wristwatch from his arm. The guest noticed what Tom was doing, and she was curious.  "So, Tom, that is your name, right? I just moved to Calgary, and this was the first apartment that I was interested in. It's very nice here..." she stated, in an accent.  (Hmm... Connie doesn't sound like she's Canadian...) She spots something of interest, on Tom's arm. "The Circum Relic is a very interesting object, as you should know... It has the ability to be a wristwatch, a compass, and magic." she described, as Sarah walked into the room, carrying a platter of tea. "Wait a minute... Did you just say 'magic'?" he asked her. Connie vindicated her previous statement.  Sarah dropped the tea platter, and Tom was dumbfounded by what their guest just said.
