Chapter 34: Shocking News

ANNA'S P.O.V

A week had passed. Ariana and I became great friends. She is honestly such a sweet girl... and crazy. Yeah she does crazy things but that never fails to make me laugh. Nathan and her are bestfriends as well. Ariana had moved on and is actually working a thing with her high school crush, Anthony, who happened to be one of her back up dancers now.

On the other side, Nathan has gained more fans because his duet with Ariana went successful. I was happy for them, they deserved this though. They went to perform in some places in the states, of course I came along with them and it was amazing to go on the trip with them.

"I'm so proud of you two" I smiled as Nathan, Ariana, and I went to Starbucks.

"Thanks babe, I really appreciate it" Nathan smiled at me and leaned in to give me a peck on the lips.

Then my phone vibrated to a text from my mom, I unlocked it to read the text.

From: Mum

Honey are u busy? Can u step by? Ur dad n I have something to tell u xx

I quickly replied.

To: Mum

Sure mom. I'll be there in 10 minutes xx

"Hey guys I need to go now. My mom and dad wanted to see me" I spoke.

"Yeah sure. Let me drive you there" Nathan offered.

I shook my head. "No, I'm fine. I'll just grab a cab. You need to rest babe, you've been performing all day. You deserve a day off"

"Nah I'm fine, love. I'll come with you, plus I want to meet your parents too, it's been a while"

"Alright then. Ari, you wanna come over too?" this time I looked at Ariana.

"Aww I really want to, but Anthony just asked me to go out with him. Maybe next time? I'm sorry, Anna"

"It's ok, Ari. Have fun with Anthony" I winked at her.

"You too babe. See ya both" she said as she stood up and walked towards a car which I believed was Anthony's.

"Well.. shall we?" Nathan asked and I just nodded.

We arrived at my parents apartment. I pressed the bell of the room, waiting for my parents to open it.

"Coming!" I heard my mom shouted. I giggled. She opened the door and her eyes lift up as she saw me. "There you are! Hi little sweetheart" she kissed my cheek and hugged me.

"Miss you mom" I hugged her back.

"Miss you even more honey" she said as we pulled away. "Ah you're here too, hi Nathan"

"Hi, Mrs. Pieters. Glad to see you again" Nathan smiled at her.

"You guys are so cute together. Well come in then"

We just nodded and walked inside. Nathan and I sat on the sofa whilst my mom called my dad to tell that we are here.

"Princess!" my dad said as he saw me. I giggled at the fact that my dad still calls me 'princess'. Nathan just chuckled when he heard it.

"Dad!" I ran to hug him. I have missed him so much.

"I've missed you so much, my princess" he hugged me.

"You too dad. So much"

I love this moment where my parents gave me their affections. Dad pulled away and as soon as he saw Nathan, he smiled.

"Nice to see you again, son" my dad said.

Nathan nodded. "You too, Sir"

"Have you taken care of my princess? She's very special to me, don't hurt her" my dad squinted his eyes at him.

"Dad.."

"I promise I will never hurt her. She's very special to me too, Sir. She's my queen and I will protect and take care of her. She's my whole life" Nathan looked at me and smiled.

Blood rushed my cheeks as he said that. What Nathan just said was so heartwarming. He is a true gentleman.

"Aww aren't they so cute together?" my mom giggled as she wrapped her arms around my dad.

"They are. Just like when we were young"

I giggled to see at how strong their love is. Years of marriage and they still look so cute together.

"So what is it that you want to talk to me?" I remembered the reason why I came here. They needed to talk to me.

"Oh right. Erm we need to tell you something. I get it if you are confused or mad later, but try to understand the situation. Will ya?" my mom said.

"Mom just tell me what is it, I'm dying to know"

"Okay. But first I want you to meet someone" she stood up and walked back to one of the room. I wondered who that person is. Seems like he/she is an important person.

"Dad who am I going to meet?" I asked my dad who sat across me.

"Just wait and see"

I just nodded. Then I heard footsteps.

"There you are" my dad said to the person.

I looked around and my eyes widen as I saw.. Nick. My Nick.

The guy I fell in love months ago. The guy I trusted most and told him about my illness. The guy who promised to stay with me until I die. The guy who broke his promises.

"N-Nick?" my voice cracked.

"Hi" he half-smiled.

"Wait, you two know each other?" my dad asked, completely confused.

"He-he is my ex boyfriend" I said silently, more like to myself.

The memories of being with him just flew in front of me. How he used to make happy, made me smile, cheered me up when I'm sad, stayed by my side and took care of me. All the memories crushed when he left me.

"You what?!" my mom was shocked.

"What is this all about?" Nathan asked beside me.

I looked at my mom. "Mom tell me what is he doing here?"

"Anna he is your brother"

WHAT THE f**k???? NICK IS MY BROTHER? FOR REAL??

"My brother?! No, that's impossible. I'm the only one child in this family and he can't happen to be my brother" I crossed my arms.

What the f**k is happening? Nick is my brother? Is that even a joke though?

"Honey listen to me. Nick is your brother, he is a part of the family" my mom sighed before she continued. "22 years ago, I had Nick as my baby before he was taken away by my boyfriend's parents who hate me. They didn't approve my relationship with Mike because I wasn't from rich family. I was depressed when he was taken away then they happened to move to the states. I wanted to look for him but I couldn't even afford a plane ticket. I spent the whole month crying over and over again, wishing my baby would come back" mom had tears in her eyes.

Dad stepped ahead and wrapped his arms around her. "Sssh honey it's okay"

"Then the next month, my boyfriend died of a car accident. I was even more depressed. I lost my baby and my boyfriend. Then I met your father and he was there to cheer me up. We got married a year later and gave birth to you but you never knew that you have a brother because I thought he was dead. The house was found burnt and all his family were found dead," my mom wiped her tears. "5 months ago, your father met Nick here in one of the meetings and thought that he looked so like me. He's got my eyes"

I looked over Nick to finally realize that he did have the same eyes like my mom. How could I never noticed it when I was still with him?

"Then your father brought me to meet him and the second I met him, I already knew that he was my long lost son. He told me he was born 22 years ago and that he was adopted. We even met his parents, who happened to be your father's boss. He is your brother, Anna"

The news hit me hard like someone stabbed me in the heart. Nick is really my brother, how could that happened? I mean.. we used to date. We kissed. He was once my boyfriend. I was once his girlfriend. That's ridiculous. The world was crazy.

"So he- he is really my brother?" I asked quietly.

She nodded. "He is your half-brother"

I couldn't process all the things she said. Nick is my brother. He is a part of the family. The guy I fell in love with is my brother. I felt my knees went weak due to the fatigue. My vision was blur and I felt myself fell but Nathan quickly held me before I hit the floor.

NATHAN'S P.O.V

Unbelievable. Anna's mom just told us that Anna has a brother. And he was Nick, Anna's ex. That's so ridiculous. I can't imagine how Anna feels right now.

I watched as Anna looked incredibly shocked before she collapsed. I immediately held her but she already fainted.

"Anna!"

I carried her up and placed her on the sofa. Her parents and Nick freaked out.

"Oh my God is she okay?"

"Breath baby breath" I bent her head to clear her airways.

I think she just got panic attack. Slowly she opened her eyes.

"Water.. I need water" she spoke weakly.

"Grab a glass of water, son!" her dad said to Nick and he rushed to the kitchen.

"You're going to be okay baby" I rubbed palm

She just nodded. A minute later, Nick came bringing a glass of water. I helped Anna to a sitting position and carefully brought the glass up closer as she drank it.

ANNA'S P.O.V

I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. I couldn't believe I got panic attack again. This news really shocked me. Nathan sat beside me as he rubbed my back gently. My parents and Nick sat across me. I couldn't even look at him. I was heartbroken.

"I think you should speak to him, Anna" my dad said.

"We will leave you two to talk" my mom said.

They both stood up and left the room. Nathan turned to me, holding my hand.

"Are you going to be okay?" he asked.

I nodded. "I'm fine. I have to talk to him"

He just nodded and pecked my lips before leaving me with Nick alone in the room. The tension in this room was so awkward. I glanced to see Nick. He hasn't changed a lot. In fact, he looked the same but his skin was a bit darker, probably because of LA's weather. I actually missed him so much.

"So.. how are you?" he finally broke the silence.

"I'm fine. You?"

"Better. I'm still not used to it, you know.. all the things that happened recently. My parents, your parents who happened to be my parents now, and you. It still upset me that the girl of my dreams is happening to be my sister. That's crazy. My heart torn into pieces. I was depressed the whole month. I couldn't sleep. I was devastated. I never thought things like these would happen" he looked at the floor, clearly you can sense sadness in his tone of voice.

"Is that why you broke up with me of all sudden? Because you knew I was your sister?"

He nodded. "Yes. The day when I was told that I am a part of this family, I was so shocked. All this time I was born from a woman who happened to be my girlfriend's mother. What is wrong with the world?! I thought of any reasons to break up with you because we can't date anymore. So I thought, maybe, a phone call is the only way to break our relationship. I can't imagine telling you the break up in person, I was not ready to see you hurt. I'm so sorry"

Tears fell off my eyes when he said that. "B-but why? Why didn't you tell me the truth in the first place? Why didn't you tell me that you are my brother the same day that you were told that you are my brother? Why Nick? Don't you know how depressed I was when you left me with all your broken promises?"

"It's not my place to tell you the news, also because your parents didn't know that we were dating," he sighed and sat on the sofa. "I'm really sorry, for hurting you and breaking our promises. I just wanted to protect you but I ended up hurting you. I don't deserve any forgiveness from you but I'm so sorry, I really am" his voice cracked.

He was in tears. I was in tears. We were in tears. The news didn't hit only me but also him. The news knocked us home, because we were once in love. The world was against us and separated us with the fact that we are sibling, he was my half-brother.

"I'm so sorry" he said once again.

My heart hurt to see him like this. It was not his fault. And I'm not the only who is hurting here, he is hurting too. Before I could stop myself, I walked towards him and wrapped my arms around him.

"Nick, I-I'm sorry too. For being selfish and to think that you loved another girl when you decided to break up with me. The day you said the word 'break up' was the day I didn't trust anyone to share my life with again, because you were the only one who knows everything about my life"

He hugged me back. "I could never betray you like that when were still together. I only loved you, even though that the news hit me deep in the heart but I still love you. I'm trying to love you like a sister, I'm really trying"

I smiled and pulled away. "Thank you. Though it did hurt when you left but I couldn't blame you. At the end, I met you again and I'm glad that you are my brother now. It means that you have to take your promises because you know brothers don't break promises. You have to keep your promise to stay by my side. Promise me that?"

He smiled. "I promise I will be a good brother for you. I promise I will keep all my promises to you. I promise to protect you and take care of you. I promise I will make you happy and spoil you because you are my only sister. And I promise I will stay by your side"

"Pinky promise?" I raised an eyebrow, raising my little finger.

"Pinky promise" he giggled and intertwined our little fingers. Just like the old time.

"So we are good now, brother?" I giggled.

"We are good now, sister" he smiled at me.

That made me the happiest. He pulled me into hug and I welcomed him. He is one of those people who give the best hugs. I'm so glad to have him back even though as my brother. I have missed him more than anything.

NATHAN'S P.O.V

I watched as he hugged her. I couldn't help but feeling so jealous. I know that guy is her brother now. But still, he is only half-brother to her. And I know for the fact that he still loves her.

"Hey babe" Anna greeted me. She looked even happier than she was 15 minutes ago.

"Hi" I smiled and kissed her. She giggled and kissed me back.

"Well I know you've known him but I want to reintroduce him to you again since the first introduction you had with him was not very friendly.. if that's okay?"

"Yeah sure babe"

"Be nice to him" she winked at me before calling Nick to come.

A second later she came back with Nick. He glared at me at first, well it was because I was being an ass on the first day we met.

"Nick I want you to meet my boyfriend, Nathan. And Nath, I want you to meet my brother, Nick" Anna said. We just nodded and shook hands. "I'll make you both tea. Just talk okay? I'll be back" she then left.

This was kinda awkward. Just me and this guy.

"Well I just want to apologize for being an ass to you on the first day we met so yeah hope we're good bro because now I'm dating your sister" I said, breaking the silence.

"Yeah that's okay. Let alone the past. I'm quite surprised that my sister is dating you now, for I believe she was complaining how you treated her months ago" he said sarcastically. "Nah I'm just kidding. I see you've changed now. Just please don't hurt her and break her heart. Love her and make her happy. Protect her and take care of her. Hold her arms and never let her go. She is no longer mine so I want you to promise me, for her, that no matter what happened you will always be there for her. Never stop loving her. Never stop making her happy. You've got my whole life in your arms now and I'm not kidding when I say I will beat you up once you hurt her" he said sternly.

I nodded. "Of course mate. I love her so much and I promise I won't hurt her. She has become my whole life now. All I want is for her to be happy"

"I'm glad she found someone like you. You were made for each other. I'm so happy for you both"

"Thanks mate" we did bro hug.

Well that was not so bad. He is actually a nice lad. I'm glad that Anna has a brother like him. He is going to be a protective brother for her.
