Retribution (the great offence)
CHAPTER 1
A LOST COURSE
Victor laid almost lifeless on his sick bed which could now be referred to as his death bed because there was no coming out of this one. He was extremely weak,he couldn't do anything for himself. He could not even open his eyes. The heart rate monitor was still beeping,so,they could still say he was alive despite the fact that he was already a living dead. The doctors were outside, talking in a low voice but could be over heard by the patient. He barely has more than 3 months to live, one of the specialists said. Yes,his condition looks like a no go area, said another. The rest specialists also gave their opinions on his condition and all were hopeless. A nurse walked in and took his temperature and checked his condition, she sighed while taking her record. The nurse walked out after the check up and left to give her report. The specialists collected some more accurate data and finally went back to their offices. The very next day,a meeting was called for and all the local doctors and foreign specialists were invited, including the nurses. The head doctor began his long speech and when he was about to round up,he brought up the case of Victor. Everyone had an opinion to air. There was murmuring, finally the head doctor called for silence and asked them to speak up in a more orderly way. One of the doctors began, well in my opinion this man is just wasting both time and money,we are doctors,we should just come clean and tell the madam that he is a goner. Another doctor stood up in opposition,we can't just give up on him and just as u said,we are doctors,we are meant to save lives no matter what. There were murmurings again and after a long while, one of the specialists spoke up. I've heard everyone here but there is a lot of opinions about this very patient's case. He is on the verge of death and despite our expertise and efforts,we still cannot save him. The good Samaritan woman who foots his medical bills, has other things she could do,she is trying her best to help him. He has been moved from one specialist hospital to another and very good specialists have been brought to treat him but no hope here. At this point, instead of wasting this precious woman's money and our valuable time on a lost course,I suggest we switch off the machine. Even with our levels of expertise,he would still die. The head doctor weighed all the opinions and finally they voted. After the meeting, the final decision was to switch off the machine and allow nature take it's course. All of Victor's family and friends had given up hope they had used up all the available resources on his treatments. They are already in debt. A once wealthy and affluent family now begs and live like street urchins. They had given up all hope of survival when a goddess and a good Samaritan, walked into their lives. A rich and popular business mogul,Miss Avera Rodriguez, founder and owner of Miles hotels and resorts. She came to their aid when there was no hope. She gave them shelter, food, good clothes and even paid for Victor's repeated treatments. What an angel!. The Roman family was very grateful to her for her heavenly deed. She even invited the foreign specialists to treat him and spent as much as needed for him even when the local doctors already closed his case, she stood by him. Everyone was moved and also still surprised by her actions toward Victor and his family. They all saw her as a blessing sent from above.
