He is running out of breath because of his weight and the hotness of the sun, they took an open path, away from the trees, so they can easily find their way to the cave.
Now that they know where they are hiding, Nova cannot risk it anymore, them escaping her grasp, she has decided that inside her mind she should be as cruel as possible to the two of them, especially now that Danny has placed his loyalty to his new masters.
