Chapter 59

We reached the area where the commotion is happening and Alexis just went the other way around, probably to hide Gerick from the enemy. So, I took the chance to go ahead to check the area. I will gather as much information as I can.

We are on a higher ground so I crawl over to the ledge and I carefully move forwards to avoid any lurking enemies from any corner. I am aware of my surrounding and used and moved forward carefully. The gunshots are getting louder and louder as I get closer.

I am betting my chances on this one and it’s either from the two that we are not with right now. It’s Anthony or Troy, I don’t want to guess because both choices will just... never mind, both results will end the same. We assist them and inform them that we are getting ourselves out of this place.

I can hear the crashes, the shouts of the enemy soldiers warning their allies about their enemy and most of all the cracks which I can’t really tell the source is. For some reason the feeling of mine that this one is Anthony is getting strong.

I mean, I cannot imagine Troy doing all that chaos, if he is, then the profile that was given to me has given me wrong information, and for some reason I wish that is true. A beast hiding within him. That’s more like it and it is most likely for us to get out of here alive and complete.

I hear gunshots and when I arrived at the location, I intended to scout the battle without getting detected by the enemies. There are multiple nearby gunshots here, so that means that there is enemy here with us right now.

I won’t mess with them because doing that will just blow my cover, so the smartest move that I can make here is to wait for Alexis’s arrival, and gather as much information as I could, just like what I originally intended to do.

I saw crates that will give me cover from the nearby enemy in my level so got up and I timed and ran towards the crates when they fired towards my ally. I successfully hid myself and here I can have a great look from above, while being protected from the ricochet of the bullets fired.

Now, who is the one that is causing all this commotion, I peeked through the bars... yeah what do I expect from him? Just like what I expected who it is, it’s Anthony currently enjoying his rampage below on the ground and it’s like he is having the time of his life.

To protect himself from the bullets fired at him, he is using the body of their comrades to use as his meat shield and what grossed me out, is that his whole body is covered with blood and guts, what did he do? He is smiling maniacally really enjoying the killings.

Well, as expected from him, he alone is enough to cause immense casualty to the enemies’ side and if we wanted to lower the forces of the opposing side, he alone is enough to be sent there. I observed the area and it is notably near towards the docks where our exfil point is, but... I saw a sparkle from above again from the stacked cargos near the docks.

Well, there is no sun right now and the moon is at its peak so there is no reason for some shiny metal there to sparkle.

My eyes widened upon realizing something...

“ANTHONY!” I stood up and I got all of their attention because of my loud voice. “HIDE!” I shouted, but it was too late when I saw a bullet pass through his head. My jaw dropped as I watch in disbelief, that just happened.

My knees weakened as I saw his body dropped dead on the ground, I still can’t believe what just happened. He is dead... but I can’t fall here as I blew up my cover and all the enemies within this area knows where am I.

I stood straight as I know that the Shinigami is taking his spot up there waiting to prowl his victims from above just like a bird of prey, and we are his prey. I took my chances, even with my injured leg, I ran as fast as I could towards safety.

I stumbled when a bullet just fired in front of me and it leaves a red after image, showing how fast it is. With all my strength I got back up and stand strong again and ran, and ran, and ran, but there is more problem for me. All of them are chasing me now.

If only Troy was here, he can use his smoke bombs to give me some temporary cover, now Anthony is dead and it is a great loss for us. With all of his capabilities it will hurt our gang to lose him, it is like we lose hundreds of men at the same time.

But I need to move on and I can’t do anything to mess with time and bring the past, if only I could. I rolled on the ground as another bullet grazed on my clothes ripping it apart. How lucky am I today? But what is important now, is I successfully hidden myself from the Shinigami.

Now I stood up and grabbed my trusty knife and pistol to prepare myself to the upcoming battle. With this state, my body can still handle my berserk. I focused and let every drop of my blood to travel faster, and make my heart pump faster. It is a technique that I mastered that greatly increased my close combat capabilities. It’s like doping, a method used by athletes to increase their capabilities just like taking steroids, I mean doping requires drug to perform it and it is banned in the competition from that point and on.

Well for my case, I can do this with my own will without getting any help from any drug and I can freely manipulate my blood flow. Also, I am making sure that my body can withstand it because getting past to my body’s limits is the last option that I have, because the consequence is far greater.

It shortens my life span.

Right now, I am face to face with the enemy pointing their guns at me and I can feel my body getting heated up. Now I am r- WHAT!? Another bullet just passed through in front of me. Don’t tell me that his bullets can penetrate through anything with that distance, and the fact that he has no vision of me is straight up terrifying.

Now his eyes are all of them and one of them must be giving information about my coordinates right now, then I will use my strengthened body to run away from this place and escape their vision.

“Alexis,” I pressed the button on the radio. “If you can hear this don’t go out,” I added warning them about the danger. One man’s sacrifice is enough and I can’t afford to lose more. “Guard Gerick and I will find you,” I told her and I hope that she can hear my feed.

“Nova this is me, Alexis,” fortunately she replied immediately. “What is happening and why did you shout?” she asked continuously but unfortunately for her, I cannot answer her question right now as I am busy running from these bastards to avoid their grasp.

I jumped mid air and rotated my body and with that I pointed my pistol to them and started firing randomly. When I successfully did a 360 degree angle rotation, I rolled on the ground to do a safe landing and I immediately got back up and I keep on running.

If I am in my best condition today, I am sure that I don’t need to roll on the ground. They fired back at me but I am not just running on one direction, and I am taking cover sometimes but I am not staying in the same area for a couple of seconds because of the Shinigami.

I don’t want to let my luck meter right now to run out of juices, we still need to escape here. I grabbed my radio again and pressed the button.

“Troy if you can hear me!” I shouted to make sure that he can hear me loud and clear. “Meet us at the exfil point near the docks, Garrison will send us an evac,” I added and released the radio again and ran again, before I did that, I reloaded my gun.

Oh, great a tunnel system! I can use that to lure the enemies towards me and do some mind trick towards them. This is getting pretty exciting for me right now to be honest. I mean thrilling, wrong word there. So I ran towards it.

Confusing them with my current location will prove to be a huge advantage for me as they cannot tell the Shinigami my exact coordinates while I take them out. This is like a maze, so I went inside to a tube that will lead me to the other side, but instead of going there, I took the detour that will lead me back to them and will allow me to ambush them.

“SPLIT UP!” I heard a voice echoed through the tubes, and that is much better for me. Taking them out piece by piece is easy for me. I can use their division to my advantage.

I used one of these tubes to wait for a group to pass by, I returned the pistol in my gun pocket, and pulled another knife. Now I am holding two daggers in my hand which will make it easier for me to s***h through their necks.

Moments later I heard footsteps that echoes to these tubes that does not make it easier for me to locate their exact location, so I must still remain in stealth until I get a vision to one of them. When that happens, that is when I strike and give them the element of surprise.
