Chapter 33

After getting out from the locker room where I came from earlier, I went straight to the priest’s room which is the nearest place where I came from, but I have the feeling that the place is already looted by another player, since there is one who I almost encounter earlier.

I wonder where it is right now, I need to concentrate more with my business. What should I do? Hmm, I scratched my chin while thinking, there’s no harm checking on the room, maybe that player is the type to ignore the notes and only focus on useful tools.

I opened the door and I saw the same table from the basement earlier which has journals and a couple of candles on the table. Although, as expected the place is already looted and the player is wise for closing the door before leaving, but will still have to check the place, for notes.

There’s a drawer that can be opened and I pressed E to open the drawer and there I saw a note left there alone, I grabbed it and I need to move on another place. I must hide since we are already 23 minutes in the game, and now my heartbeat is racing. I heard footsteps and I looked around the room for a possible hiding spot.

I only saw a bed as a possible hiding spot, left with no choice I rushed besides it and pressed the CTRL key to crouch and as speculated, I can hide under it, I pressed E and my character crawled under the bed. The footsteps began louder and louder, I waited for it to get inside the room, whether it is a player or a ghost. No matter what, my objective is to hide from them. Friendly fire is I am worried about right now, I don’t know if we are allowed to hurt out own teammates but who knows. I didn’t even try.

After a few moments the door opened and I saw a fellow player entered the room.

“Please no,” she said. It might be SenZ since she is the only fellow female finalist out of us 5. She seems nervous and panicking and I prayed that she doesn’t go here. I don’t want her, to find out. I put still and observe what will happen next if I continue to watch her. She might be chased...

“HAHAHAHA,” a distorted laugh suddenly appeared and it’s loud meaning that it is nearby. “NO ESCAPE,” it said and SenZ is screaming to the top of her lungs when a winged demon appeared out of nowhere must be Lucifer, the one who spawned when the twenty minute marked hits. Its skin is crimson red and there are two long pointed horns to the top of its head with long black hair. Its eyes are as the same color of its skin and pointed teeth.

She clearly doesn’t know what to do and she is looking around non stop hoping that something might save her. I wanted to, but I remember that she is my enemy in getting that card. Lucifer grabbed her body and threw her against the wall, since the demon is an AI, it gave the poor player a chance to run, and SenZ did not waste that chance so she got up and ran outside the room as fast as she could.

The demon chased after her and it has incredible speed, it gave me the shivers to be chased by that enemy. I wonder what repels it to make it go away while chasing a player. I don’t know but I need to find out soon before the demon gets me.

Hiding is not a good idea anymore after seeing it and I went out from under the bed and went outside the room immediate... wait I should read the notes before going out, that might gave me a clue on finding out how to counter that demon since Nina in her earlier letters mentioned that she encountered the demon.

I think there is something that made her lucky for some reason and I am hoping that she has written it on this letter. I hope. I pressed the tab button once again to access the inventory tab in the game, I pressed on the pile of letters in my inventory and the letter appeared on my screen once again and this time I am more alert right now since sound cues are much more important than I expected. It’s the twelfth out of the 13 notes scattered around the church.

“Dear Mother,

I somehow got out of the cage when hell got loose inside the church. The cult members can’t control the situation, and most of them are slaughtered by the demon, but as usual the priests in high position escaped and I heard that they sealed the whole church with salt and holy water to keep the demon in check.

I have a bottle of holy water, and as I thought it worked on sending the demon away from me for a brief moment. I can’t get outside since the demon turned most of the cult members here into some kind of monster and I saw the grieving soul of Elizabeth draining the life of all being that it encountered. I don’t want to be in the same state since I can hear her cries from all over the place. I need to hide more mother, and pray for me so the God will continue to watch over me and give me strength.

This was very helpful than I thought, it was like an answered prayer by the god of this game. I need to find some holy water to prevent the demon from chasing me. That was vey helpful. Oh, thank God! I need time to loot the place. SenZ probably don’t have some in hand since she is clearly panicking when she got inside here.

“SenZ has been killed.”

Speaking of the devil, she’s been killed by Lucifer and I don’t want something like that to happen, so there is only four of us remaining right now in the match. That means that Lucifer has fewer selection to chase. Meaning, every time that each one of us dies in the game, the game will get only harder and harder for us, just like when every 10 minutes hits the time mark.

I need to find a holy water soon. I wonder what might be anonymous is up to now, is he sticking with that escape plan. Or he shifted his goals to survive until he gets to be the last one alive. I don’t know but meeting with him right now, is a blessing since I can use him as cover when the demon chases us, and killing him in the process is like killing two birds in one stone.

I might sound evil right now, but hey this is just a game. It’s not real life, and if it is, then no one will act like these. We will probably cooperate to escape this hell, but fortunately it’s not. That’s why I am thankful that this is just a game.

Another whispers, I hear whispers from that room. Should I go there and meet that player or should I move on and ignore them. Well, it’s far away from me. Better ignore it. I don’t want to be killed by an obvious trap.

A smirk formed on my face and I went to a lock door instead when I hear Nina from that place if that is an actual player then that would be a hard chase for them, since Nina is more aggressive right now and she is dealing more damage.

Another bell rang, that means we reached the thirty-minute mark of the game. This is bad! I don’t have any holy water in my inventory, I don’t want to die. I heard Nina getting louder and louder.

“Sky Reaper has been killed.”

Additional player has fallen into the pits of hell. Ohhh, only three of us left, Anonymous, me, and Avenger7. I don’t know what the other is up to but he is doing good as I saw their health bars still in full health. Yes, I just noticed that I can see their health bars on the top right corner of my screen.

I looked at it multiple times but I just noticed right now. Is there something wrong with my eyes?

Back to the main topic, I need to find holy water right now, but... I heard Nina’s moan and cries becoming louder, since she is levitating and I can’t hear any footsteps from her. So, I hid under a nearby table and let her pass, there are also nearby lockers.

I saw Nina turned around from a corner to my direction and I witnessed how she opened one of the lockers to check if there is a player hiding inside it. Which terrified me because she will check under this table too. I need to get her away from me, some distraction might do.

Ohh, I remember, I have some throwable cans left in my inventory so I pressed T to gain the quick access to my precious can and immediately threw it from the other direction to make Nina go away from me. I knew this will work and I need to run away.

I threw it immediately so I can have a chance to get away from her. Also, I knew that running would attract her attention, but I don’t really have a choice right now since the same thing will happen to me right now if I continue to hide underneath that table.

I took a deep breath and got out of the table and I started to sprint as fast as this character could. I looked around for a brief moment, and Nina is chasing after me already. AND SHE IS VERY CLOSE!
