Death news
The evening sun had already begun to fade, leaving soft golden light spilling through my bedroom window. I was fully dressed for the party, standing in front of the mirror one last time to smooth the wrinkles from my outfit. My shoes were on, my bag rested neatly beside the door, and my phone was clutched tightly in my hand. Everything was ready except my family. Every few minutes, I glanced at the clock. The ticking seemed louder than usual, reminding me that we were getting later with every passing second. I walked to the living room, hoping to hear someone say, "We're back home ," but instead I found the house filled with silence . With a small sigh, I sat on the sofa, gently tapping my foot against the floor. I opened my phone, checked the time again, and scrolled through messages from friends who were already at the venue. Their excitement made me smile, but it also made me wish I had left earlier. Every sound from outside of the house made me think it was finally time to go, only to realize another delay had appeared. To distract myself, I looked out of the window. The streets were slowly filling with cars, and the evening breeze carried the laughter of people already enjoying their night. I imagined the music, decorations, and cheerful conversations waiting for us at the party. The anticipation made my excitement grow stronger despite the delay. I wanted to hear the words I had been waiting for all evening: "Were back home!" Relief could then instantly replace my impatience. The wait had felt endless, I went back in my room , all dressed up ready to go to the party my friends have invited me in . " oh how long will they take to come back home ! " , I was anxiously waiting for my parents to come back home so i could tell them that i am going to a party , handle them the keys and could just fly away . I was constantly looking at my phone wondering how much more time do they need to come back home , Its already 8 ! my makeup is just about to wash away . I stood in the room , with my bag hanging from my shoulder and my excitement slowly turning into frustration. We had agreed to leave together, yet there was no sign of my family. The quiet street around me felt unusually still, making every passing minute seem much longer than it really was. I unlocked my phone and dialed my mother's number for what felt like the tenth time. The phone rang again and again before the call ended without an answer. I frowned and immediately called my father. Once more, the ringtone echoed in my ears, but no one picked up. I even tried calling my siblings, hoping at least one of them would answer, but every call went unanswered. A hundred thoughts raced through my mind. Had they forgotten about the party? Were they stuck in traffic? Had something happened on the way? The uncertainty was worse than the waiting itself. I kept refreshing my messages, hoping to see a text explaining the delay, but the screen remained empty. I paced back and forth, checking the road every few seconds whenever I heard the sound of an approaching car. Each time, my heart lifted with hope, only to sink again when the vehicle drove past without stopping. I tried calling once more, gripping my phone tightly as if that would somehow make someone answer. Still, there was nothing but the endless ringing. The excitement I had felt earlier slowly faded into worry. I took a deep breath and looked down the road again, silently hoping that the next car would be theirs. Just as I was beginning to lose hope, my phone vibrated. Just as I was about to call again, my phone vibrated in my trembling hands. The caller ID displayed an unfamiliar number. For a brief moment, I hesitated, hoping it might be one of my family members using someone else's phone. "Hello?" I answered, my voice barely whispered . There was a short pause before a shaky male voice . "Is this the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony ?" My heart skipped a beat. "Yes ,Who is this? Where are they?" The man took a deep breath, as though searching for the right words. "I'm so sorry . Your parents were at the grocery store on Suschika Street. There was ...there was a shooting." The world around me seemed to freeze. "What?" I gasped. "No... no, that's impossible. Let me talk to them." Silence answered me. "I'm sorry," he continued, his voice breaking. "They were caught in the attack. The paramedics tried everything they could... but they didn't survive." The phone slipped slightly from my grasp. "No !!! " I whispered, shaking my head over and over. "You're lying. They were coming to pick me up. I just called them. They can't be..." Tears blurred my vision as my knees gave way beneath me. I collapsed onto the cold pavement, unable to breathe. My ears rang, drowning out every sound around me except those unbearable words. "They didn't survive." Only minutes earlier, I had been annoyed that no one was answering my calls. I had imagined excuses , dead batteries, traffic, forgotten phones but never this. Never that every unanswered call was one they would never be able to answer again. I stared at my phone, desperately hoping it would ring with my mother's cheerful voice or my father's familiar laugh, telling me it had all been a terrible misunderstanding. But the screen remained dark. For the first time in my life, silence felt louder than any scream.
