Why did he come?
With the warm yellow lights shining in through the windows, Abigail found herself staring at the naked torso that stood before her. "You're awake?", the man stated in a low but cold tone. He only came to the apartment they 'shared' once a week, making their s*x life become more of a routine. While his physique was appealing, she found herself always pondering if he actually had feelings or if it was simply obligation.
The next morning, Abigail awoke to an empty bed. She rubbed her groggy eyes and sat up. For a few moments, she enjoyed the silence before being startled by sounds coming from the kitchen. Her husband, Dean, was dressed in a plain t-shirt and loose sweatpants. She watched as he worked his way around the kitchen and found herself blushing as she recalled last nights events. "Go get changed", Dean stated as he gave her a stern look. Abigail quickly looked down and realized she was still in her nightgown, she rushed back to the room without a word.
Once she was washed up and dressed, she returned to the kitchen to find Dean had finished cooking and already began eating. She sat down opposite of him and they ate in silence. The silence had become normal for her, never much conversation between the two. As they finished breakfast, Abigail took the dishes to the sink while Dean got dressed. As she finished cleaning off the table, Dean grabbed his jacket and keys, preparing to leave. "Don't leave the dishes in the sink, wash them", he stated before closing the door behind him. His words always gave her a deep chill.
She knew that Dean did not love her. It was a forced marriage made by their fathers. She was required to sign a contract with him when they got married. The contract stated certain requirements such as splitting the cost's of living, no children, and only four years of marriage then they could get divorced with her having no obligated property or assets. Abigail signed these contracts naively, thinking she could give Dean a change of heart throughout the marriage. Over the past three years, he was as still withdrawn and cold as ever.
After pondering over her marriage for awhile, Abigail returned to the kitchen and finished washing the dishes.
After getting ready for work, Abigail left to begin her work day. "Good morning, Abby", the receptionist called out, as Abigail entered the building and headed to the elevators. Once in her office, Abigail took off her blazer and draped it over her chair. Once she had organized her work, she paged the boss's assistant and asked if he was in yet. She went to Daniel's office and knocked on the door. "Is that you Abby?... come in, come in" Daniel called out as he out down the paperwork in his hands. As she took a seat in front of his desk, Daniel had a puzzling look come across his face and asked, "What do you need this morning?". "I need to ask a favor of you", Abigail stated. "I have worked with this company for a few years now and you know I am reliable and efficient. I need to borrow two-hundred thousand dollars", she continued with a light pleading tone.
