CH 5: The Impossible Bond

Nishi Darkness receded slowly from Nishi’s mind like a thick fog dissolving under the first quiet touch of dawn. Consciousness returned not with clarity but with fragments of sensation that surfaced gradually through the haze of pain and exhaustion. The very first thing she noticed was warmth. Not the harsh, biting cold of the forest ground that had pressed cruelly against her bare skin only hours earlier. Not the damp earth that had bruised her ribs and numbed her trembling limbs after the brutal battle with the rogues. This warmth was different. It was steady, soft, enveloping her body like a protective cocoon that felt strangely safe and deeply unfamiliar at the same time. Her eyelashes fluttered weakly as she attempted to open her eyes. A quiet groan escaped her lips before she could stop it, the sound fragile and strained as sharp pain suddenly sliced through her shoulder and ribs. The movement alone felt as though a blade had been dragged slowly across the wounds that still throbbed beneath layers of bandages. Her breathing faltered for a moment. Carefully, hesitantly, she forced her eyes open. At first everything appeared blurred, the shapes around her dissolving into shadows and soft light, but gradually her vision steadied enough for the details of the room to emerge. And the sight immediately made her heart skip. The room surrounding her was enormous. Towering ceilings crafted from polished dark wood stretched far above her head, their carved beams forming intricate patterns that reflected centuries of craftsmanship and power. The walls were painted in a deep shade of gray that gave the entire space a calm yet commanding presence, while elegant golden lamps placed carefully throughout the chamber illuminated pools of warm light that softened the shadows. Heavy velvet curtains framed enormous windows along one wall, their rich fabric pulled slightly aside so that pale silver moonlight spilled into the room like liquid glass. The glow of the moon mixed with the warm lamplight, creating an atmosphere that felt strangely calm and dangerously unfamiliar. The air smelled faintly of cedarwood and cool stone. But beneath those scents lingered something warmer. Something stronger. Something that made her pulse jerk suddenly in alarm. Her chest tightened instantly. Nishi attempted to sit up, her instincts urging her to move, to escape, to understand where she was and how she had gotten here. But the moment her body shifted, pain exploded violently through her injured shoulder. A sharp gasp tore from her throat as the movement forced her to collapse back against the soft surface beneath her. Her body was wrapped carefully in bandages, clean white cloth secured around her ribs and shoulder where the rogue claws had torn through her flesh. Soft blankets draped over her body from chest to feet, their warmth soothing yet suffocating at the same time. Panic twisted sharply in her stomach. Memories rushed back all at once. The forest. The rogues. Her wolf Moon. The violent shift that had shattered everything she believed about herself. ‘You survived.’ Her wolf stirred slowly within her mind, her voice calm but firm. Relief brushed briefly against Nishi’s fear. But confusion followed almost immediately. Where am I…? Her eyes darted across the unfamiliar room again as her mind struggled to make sense of everything. Before she could gather her thoughts further, the large wooden door at the far end of the chamber opened quietly. A tall man stepped inside. His presence filled the room instantly. Broad shoulders framed beneath dark clothing, his posture straight and commanding, every movement controlled with the natural authority of someone who was accustomed to absolute obedience. Dark hair fell slightly across his forehead, contrasting sharply with the piercing silver-blue eyes that fixed on her the moment he stepped fully into the room. Even though he stood silently, doing nothing more than observing her, the sheer weight of his presence pressed heavily against her chest. Danger radiated from him. Not wild or reckless danger, but the calm, controlled kind that belonged to someone who could destroy enemies without raising his voice. Nishi instinctively shifted backward on the bed, her white soft fabric rustling as she moved. ‘Mate.’ Inside her mind, Moon’s voice suddenly surged forward with urgent intensity. The word struck her mind like lightning. Her breath caught instantly. The man’s gaze never left her. His eyes were cold and unreadable, yet the intensity behind them made her pulse accelerate wildly, her heart slamming painfully against her ribs. Only a quiet, controlled murmur escaped his lips. “You’re awake.” He spoke very little. Her chest constricted painfully. Confusion flooded her thoughts. She did not understand what was happening. She did not know who this man was. She did not know why her wolf had spoken that word with such certainty. And worst of all, she did not know the rules of the world beyond the small pack she had grown up in. Yet every instinct inside her screamed the same warning. He was dangerous. He could reject her. He could claim her completely. She pressed herself instinctively deeper into the blankets. Before she could respond, another presence moved into the doorway. This man was different. Golden brown eyes burned with controlled fire as they swept across the room before settling directly on her. Heat radiated from him in powerful waves, his entire body carrying the restrained strength of someone who lived constantly on the edge of explosive violence. His movements were precise and controlled, yet the raw protective instinct surrounding him was unmistakable. He inhaled slowly. Then his voice cut through the room. “Mate!” He growled. The first man’s jaw tightened slightly as his silver-blue gaze flicked briefly toward the newcomer. “So you smell her too.” The first man asked. “You too?” The second man looked at his amazed face. “It seems we share the same mate.” The first man said. Nishi’s pulse raced faster. Another Alpha King stepped forward. His deep blue gaze swept over her carefully before shifting toward the others. “I don't think you two only share a mate…Count me too.” His tone carried disbelief and a dangerous edge. He stepped closer, his presence intensifying the pressure that already filled the room. Nishi pressed herself back instinctively, fear coiling tightly in her chest. “You three always forget about me.” Then a fourth presence appeared. This one lingered quietly at the doorway, dark green eyes sharp and calculating as they studied the scene unfolding before him. He did not rush forward like the second Alpha King. Instead he simply observed. Analyze them. Measured every detail. A faint smirk curved his lips, but it never softened the piercing intelligence within his gaze. “This is unexpected," he said softly. His eyes lingered briefly on Nishi’s injuries, the trembling of her hands, and the white fabric covering her fragile form. A crooked grin rested briefly on his lips. But the moment his gaze landed on Nishi’s face the grin vanished. His body stiffened almost imperceptibly. “Well… This will be more complicated than our businesses." He murmured and looked at the other three men. Nishi’s chest tightened painfully. Four towering figures. Four powerful presences that dominated the room with quiet authority. Four unknown men standing before her like living forces of nature. And somehow she was at the center of all of them. Her black eyes widened slightly as fear and awe collided violently in her chest. ‘Moon, is this four my mate?’ Nishi asked her wolf for confirmation. ‘Yes. The Moon Goddess chose these four wolves to be our mates’.’ Moon responded happily. ‘They could reject me… Or worse… I have no idea who they are. I am wounded… weak… and completely alone.’ Nishi thought. ‘Don't be scared. Step carefully, Observe carefully. I'm with you. Nothing will happen to you.’ Moon stirred again. Nishi shifted slightly on the bed, attempting to create even the smallest amount of distance between herself and the four Alpha Kings. Her pulse raced uncontrollably. Her breathing grew shallow. The tension in the room became almost physical. Four separate layers of dominance filled the air, pressing invisibly against her senses as though each Alpha King were silently testing her strength. Adrian—the first man—stepped forward slowly. His movements were deliberate and measured. His silver-blue eyes never left her face, though they flicked briefly toward the other three. A silent question passed between them. Do you feel it too? The second Alpha King’s golden brown gaze narrowed as he mirrored the glance. “I… feel it. Don't ask further.” He said quietly. The words carried disbelief, caution, and undeniable awe. The third Alpha King remained calm. His deep blue eyes scanned both Nishi and the others carefully before he added softly, “This… is remarkable. I never thought we would all unite like this.” Though his voice sounded neutral, subtle tension appeared in his posture. The fourth Alpha King shifted his weight slightly. “Seems… she’s ours.” Nishi’s heart pounded violently. Four mates. Four unknown Alpha Kings she had never seen before. She pressed herself further back into the blankets. Her thoughts spiraled chaotically. ‘They could reject me. They could not fight over me. I don’t even know their names. I don’t even know who they are. Yet the pull between us remained undeniable, the strongest bond I ever felt.’ ‘Little wolf… Calm down, breathe first. They are not going to launch on you. They need time too like you need. So don't think too much.’ Moon’s voice returned once more. Nishi inhaled slowly, though her body continued trembling beneath the weight of the moment. Her gaze darted between the four men, absorbing every subtle detail the way their eyes tracked her movements, the silent communication passing between them, the instinctive recognition that none of them had expected this situation. “We did not expect this.” Adrian finally spoke again. His deep voice broke the silence. “None of us… expected her like this.” The second Alpha King exhaled slowly. “She’s… extraordinary.” The third Alpha King studied her again thoughtfully. “Complicated… but inevitable.” The fourth Alpha King leaned slightly against the doorframe once more. Nishi’s chest tightened as she absorbed the reality surrounding her. Four powerful Alpha Kings. Four undeniable mate bonds. And a future she could not yet understand. ‘You are not prey. You are not weak. They are yours, as you are theirs.’ Her wolf whispered softly inside her mind. Yet even as those words echoed through her thoughts, Nishi realized something that her life had changed forever. And the impossible bond that now connected her to the four most powerful men she had ever seen… Had only just begun. ****
