CHAPTER TWENTY THREE Stella climbed out of her unmarked at the police precinct, in time to watch a shouting and screaming Cassidy being unloaded from the van that had transported her there. “When are you going to let me call my lawyer? You do realize everything you’ve done is completely illegal?” Maxwell helped her out of the van. Detective Grant, who’d driven Cassidy’s Volvo to the police station, was waiting to take the other arm of the still-struggling woman. “Please come this way, ma’am,” Detective Grant insisted, in polite but firm tones. “It will be easier for all of us, and go better for you, if you don’t resist.” With an impatient sigh, Cassidy flipped her hair back, but she stopped fighting and trailed defiantly along between the two men.
