Chapter Ten
Silence fell amongst them as they plodded towards their destination. They eventually came across a dirt road that was devoid of travellers. Several times they stopped for a break and once Merrick offered to carry Audrey upon his back. Seeing how fatigued he looked, she declined.
By the time they saw the village in the distance, Audrey was ready to collapse and if her brother complained once more she might hit him. Hard enough to bruise. He opened his mouth, closing it when she glared at him.
“Did you want to wait here and I’ll go ahead and bring back horses for you?” Merrick asked.
