Chapter Thirteen She took several steps, backing away towards the stairs. “What about them?” She vaguely gestured towards the rest of the cages. “Are we going to leave them too?” Luw strode past the front of the cages. “Does anyone want to leave? I can take two with me.” One woman struggled to sit up. “Me. Many more days and I’m dead anyway. If I die, so does he. Madlen has told me that so many times.” Her words were broken, her breathing laboured. Luw took the crystal out of his belt pouch and used it on the cage door. Once he’d returned it to his belt pouch, he opened the door and gathered the woman up off the floor.
