The Rules

Chapter 3: The Rules Jaxon handed her a thick envelope. “What’s this?” Elena asked, heart thudding as she flipped it open. “A preview of your future,” he said coolly. “Terms. Conditions. Expectations.” She skimmed the first few lines—a one-year marriage, full confidentiality, required appearances, and a clause about… cohabitation. “You expect me to move in with you?” she asked. “You’ll be my wife. Appearances matter.” She looked up sharply. “And the physical part of this—relationship?” He stepped closer, his voice low. “That’s optional. But I don’t do things halfway, Elena. If you’re mine—you’re mine.” The words made her breath catch. There was no warmth in his eyes—only control. Possession. But it wasn’t cruel… it was dangerously tempting. “I’m not a toy,” she said quietly. Jaxon smirked. “No. You’re a challenge. That’s far more interesting.” Elena hesitated. This man, this offer—it was insane. But so was losing everything. She folded the contract and met his gaze. “I’ll think about it.” “Don’t take too long,” he said. “Because once I decide I want something…” He brushed past her on his way out, the heat of him lingering like a warning. “…I always take it.”
