Chapter 1: God Will Favor the Faithful!
"God will bless the believers!" As the day approached dusk, the young monk bid farewell to the middle-aged couple at the door and turned to leave. "God will bless the believers!" the couple replied before closing the door and handing out the holy bread the monk had given them to their nephew, Brian, and their daughter, Lena. "I'm going to cook dinner tonight, and we have salted meat." "That's great, Aunt Maggie!" Brian beamed with happiness, his infectious smile lifting the mood of those around him. Watching his aunt and uncle busily working, Brian stuffed the holy bread into his mouth and felt the burning pain. "I must find a way to leave the Holy Harmonic Kingdom," Brian thought, gritting his teeth to swallow the remaining holy bread. The holy bread was made by the monks of the Church of Holy Harmony by baking a mixture of wheat flour and holy water, and while it had no special taste, it was blessed by the monks and had a faint holy power that could expel evil. And Brian happened to be one of those "evils" that it expelled. Brian's original name was not Brian Boku or his former name Brian Riggs but a name that did not fit into this world. "It's been thirteen years since I unknowingly came to this world," Brian thought. He was originally an ordinary person from another world who, while driving home from work, crashed into a black hole that appeared out of nowhere and was reborn in this world, a world of divine magic and exotic creatures. Unfortunately, he was reborn as a werewolf, an exotic creature that was shunned by most human forces. Exotic creatures and humans are not much different, but they are different in some ways, so they are called exotics, and werewolves are one of them. The biggest difference between werewolves and humans is that most werewolves lose control on the night of the full moon, growing fangs and becoming giant wolves that walk on two legs, and they mostly lose their sanity, becoming bloodthirsty and hunting down the lives around them. Luckily, Brian was one of the few who could control his transformation and suppress his bloodthirsty desires, keeping a certain degree of sanity. This involves the difference between innate and acquired werewolves. Innate werewolves are born from werewolf couples, just like humans. They are known as purebred werewolves. Acquired werewolves, on the other hand, can be transformed through infection, curse, magic, and other means. Bryan is a half-purebred werewolf, his biological father being a werewolf. It's because of his half-breed status that Bryan is able to hide in the border city of Luo Ya in the Holy Sky Sound Kingdom. As long as he doesn't transform, he is indistinguishable from a human. The Holy Land Kingdom is a church country with many church clerics. For various reasons, no matter which church it is, all varieties of werewolves are their greatest enemies. There are special teams dedicated to hunting down werewolves, and once they are caught, they are either burned alive, hanged, or imprisoned until death. In short, the majority of werewolves meet only one fate - death. Therefore, Bryan's goal is to cross the wall of Luo Ya and head to the opposite Loken Kingdom. He is currently staying with the Boku family, ostensibly as the nephew of the male head of the household, Aris Boku, but in reality, they have no blood relationship. The real Bryan has already died at the hands of bandits. He was a careless young man who came to Luo Ya to seek refuge with his uncle after his parents died of illness. When Bryan first met the real Bryan, he learned most of his information without even using any tricks. By the second time he saw him, the once-careless young man had become a corpse in the hands of the bandits. Having witnessed all of this, Bryan realized that he needed an identity. So he helped the real Bryan get revenge and took on Bryan's identity after killing him, and came to the city of Luo Ya. "Brother Bryan." A call made Bryan turn around, and he saw a seven or eight-year-old girl running towards him. She hugged Bryan's legs and looked up at him with her bright eyes. "Have you finished eating your holy bread?" Lena Boku, Aris's daughter, is Bryan's nominal younger sister. They had been together for half a month, and she already trusted him completely. "I have finished it. I'll make sure to save some for you next time, okay?" Bryan smiled and tousled her hair, making it messy before re-braiding it for her. He didn't like the tasteless and even painful holy bread, but he had to give others a 'normal' impression in order to avoid exposing himself. Watching Lena happily jump into her mother's arms and ask if her braids looked good, Bryan turned his head and walked up to the second floor. He looked out the window at the twilight scenery of this border city. "I must leave quickly..." The next morning, Brian left the house early to sell the homemade pickled vegetable cakes from the Boku family and greeted the neighbors around him. The neighbors also became familiar with Brian and shouted his name with a smile. Half a month ago, the Boku family's nephew came to seek refuge with his uncle due to his parents' death and his face was swollen from a bee sting on the way. After the swelling subsided during this time, he also became a handsome young man. While selling the pickled vegetable cakes, Brian collected information. It seemed that his disguise was still adequate. He didn't look like the real Brian. Although Alyce had not seen his nephew for many years, she still had some impressions. If she saw a completely unfamiliar person at first glance, she would be suspicious. So Brian deliberately made his face swollen. After half a month of getting along, as Brian's face gradually slimmed down, he had enough impressions. This made Alyce not suspect him at all. While calling out along the street, Brian began to survey the area and looked towards a mansion in the distance. That was his goal. The Holy Kingdom and the Loken Kingdom were currently in a hostile state and the border was not open. If you wanted to pass through the Roya border defense line, you had to rely on the power of the nobles. Most of the nobles in the border city were involved in some smuggling business. Generally speaking, a commoner would almost never be able to get involved in the smuggling business of the nobles, even if they spent several years or more of effort. Their servants were usually passed down from generation to generation, with the son inheriting the father's business and serving the noble for several generations. This is the only way to gain the noble's trust. An outsider, no matter how he proves himself, cannot make them trust him. However, now there was an opportunity. "The baron Mansura is behind those bandits." Brian remembered the information he obtained from those bandits and secretly remembered the terrain of the baron. After selling for a while, he left. He still needed to do a lot of preparation, otherwise, whether it was the nobles or the church in the city, they all had the ability to deal with him, an underage werewolf. When he returned to the Boku family's house, Alyce and Maggie had not yet returned. The Boku family was not wealthy and could barely maintain their livelihoods, especially after Brian arrived. "It's time." Brian rubbed Lena's head as she ran over, calculating in his heart. He had to act cautiously before, so he had to be more prudent and do more than say now. Now that he was gradually becoming familiar with the place, Brian felt that he could act appropriately to help the Boku family become a little more prosperous, without exposing himself and at least not becoming a burden to them. "Bringing knowledge from another world would be too abrupt, and the world is different now, some things are completely different, and that knowledge may not be useful anyway." "Even if it is useful, if it is too far ahead of this era, it may be regarded as being possessed by the devil and end up on the stake. Or, if it is related to interests, it may be called a despicable thief who stole the secrets of the noble class." Brian knew too well about the ethics of the church and some of the people in this era. As his gaze swept over this not-so-prosperous home, Brian saw a book with a painting on the cover. "Perhaps I can try to become a painter." Being a painter in this world was a pretty good option, especially for religious-related painting work, and Brian happened to be quite familiar with this area.
