Chapter1
"Sign it, Jax. You're done." The heavy divorce papers slammed onto the polished mahogany table with a sharp, echoing c***k. Jax didn't flinch. He kept his eyes fixed on his wife, now his ex-wife, Vivian. She stood there, her arms crossed, looking at him as if he were a piece of garbage stuck to her expensive designer shoes. "I never loved you anyway," Vivian sneered, her voice dripping with ice. "You're just a penniless, useless nobody. My family gave you a home, a job, and a life, and you repaid us by stealing our corporate secrets. Look at yourself. You have nothing." "I didn't steal anything, Vivian," Jax said. His voice was terrifyingly calm. He didn't shout. He didn't cry. He just stared at her with eyes that could freeze fire. "Your brother framed me. You know that. The accounting logs were altered from his terminal." "Who cares about the truth?" A harsh, mocking laugh cut through the room. Vivian’s mother, Beatrice, walked into the office, clutching her pearls and sneering. "The media already has the story. The police are downstairs. You are ruined, Jax. You are a criminal, and you are officially disowned and fired from this company." Jax looked at the contract in front of him. They had stripped him of his job, his dignity, and his marriage all in one morning. They thought they had broken him. They thought he was just a stray dog they could kick to the curb. They had no idea who he really was. They didn't know that Jax was the sole heir to the Drake Syndicate , the most powerful global underground empire in existence. They didn't know that under a secret alias, he was a world-renowned doctor who held the lives of international billionaires in his hands. He had lived as a normal man just to see if anyone would love him for who he was, not his wealth. He had his answer. Jax picked up the pen. With a swift, sharp stroke, he signed his name. "There," Jax said, standing up. He adjusted his cheap jacket, but he carried himself like a king. "You have your papers." "Good. Now get out before the guards throw you out," Vivian snapped, turning her back on him. "And don't ever look back." "Oh, I won't look back, Vivian," Jax whispered, a cold, dark smile touching his lips. "But you will." Before Vivian could process his words, the heavy double doors of the office burst open. Three police officers marched in, their handcuffs rattling loudly. "Jax Drake?" the lead officer barked, pointing at him. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage." Beatrice laughed loudly, clapping her hands. "Take him away! Let the whole world see what a loser he is!" Jax didn't resist as the cold metal wrapped around his wrists. He looked directly into Vivian's eyes. He didn't look angry; he looked amused. It was the look of a predator watching a mouse walk into a trap. The officers dragged him out of the office and down into the bustling lobby of the corporate building. Flashbulbs blinded him instantly. Dozens of reporters pressed forward, shouting questions, throwing insults, and capturing his face for the evening news. "Look here, criminal!" a reporter yelled. Jax kept his head high. He scanned the crowd. In the back of the lobby, standing near the glass exit, a tall man in a sharp black suit caught his eye. The man gave a subtle, respectful nod and tapped his luxury watch twice. It was a signal. The wheels of the Drake Syndicate were already turning. The officers pushed Jax toward the police cruiser waiting in the rain. Just as they opened the door, a sleek, matte-black armored limousine screeched to a halt right in front of the police car, blocking the entire street. The door of the limousine popped open, and a woman stepped out into the pouring rain. She wore a long, tailored white coat. Her dark hair was perfectly styled, and her eyes were sharp enough to cut glass. It was Madeline Vance, the legendary, ice-cold billionaire heiress of the Vance Group—the biggest rival to Vivian’s family business. The reporters gasped, instantly turning their cameras toward her. Madeline didn't look at the press. She walked straight past the reporters, straight past the stunned guards, and stopped right in front of Jax. The police officer grabbed Jax’s arm. "Ma'am, step back. This man is a dangerous criminal." Madeline didn't step back. She looked Jax up and down, ignoring the handcuffs entirely. A small, knowing smirk appeared on her beautiful face. "Is he?" Madeline asked, her voice clear and commanding. She looked at the police officer, then turned her gaze directly to the cameras. "Because according to my sources, he is my new business partner. And my fiancé." Vivian rushed out of the lobby, her eyes wide with rage. "Madeline Vance! You're crazy! That man is a broke thief! We just threw him out!" Madeline slowly turned her head, her eyes locking onto Vivian with absolute disdain. "He might be a thief to a small-minded family, but to the Vance Group, he is a genius. Officers, look at your phones right now." The lead officer's phone violently buzzed. He pulled it out, listened for three seconds, and his face drained of color. He looked at Jax with sudden terror. "Unlock him," the officer ordered his men quickly. "Now!" The handcuffs clinked open. Jax rubbed his wrists, stepping away from the police car. Vivian took a step back, her breath hitching as she looked at Jax, who was now standing next to the most powerful woman in the city. "Jax," Vivian stammered, her voice shaking. "What did you do?" Jax didn't answer her. He opened the door of the limousine for Madeline, then paused and looked back at Vivian and her mother. "The next time you see me, Vivian," Jax said, his voice vibrating with a quiet, lethal power. "You will be begging for my mercy. And I will not give it." With that, Jax stepped into the limousine and slammed the door. Inside, the car was dead silent. Madeline sat across from him, pouring a glass of water. She handed it to him, her eyes tracking his every movement. "You didn't look surprised to see me, Jax," Madeline said, leaning back against the leather seat. "I knew you needed a husband to claim your inheritance by tomorrow night, Miss Vance," Jax replied smoothly. "And I needed a stage to ruin the people who crossed me." "So you knew about my grandfather's will," Madeline murmured, a dangerous spark igniting in her eyes. "You are smarter than the files say. But let's see if you can handle what comes next." She pressed a button on the armrest, and a hidden compartment opened, revealing a document. "This is our marriage contract. One year. You act as my husband, and I give you the resources to destroy your ex-wife's family. But if you fail to play the part perfectly, I will ruin you myself." Jax picked up the pen inside the car and signed without hesitation. "I don't fail, Madeline." Suddenly, the limousine's tires screeched violently. The vehicle veered to the left as a massive heavy-duty truck crashed directly into the front side of the limousine, shattering the reinforced glass and sending the car spinning across the wet asphalt. The limousine slammed against the guardrail, smoking. Through the cracked window, Jax could see three dark SUVs pulling up, and armed men wearing the crest of Vivian’s family allies began stepping out, drawing their weapons. Madeline gasped, struggling to sit up as blood dripped from a small cut on her forehead. "They're trying to kill us before we can reach the registry!" Jax unbuckled his seatbelt, his eyes turning completely dark as he kicked the dented door open, stepping out into the rain. He looked at the armed men advancing on them, then looked down at his phone, which was flashing with an urgent alert. "Sir," a voice boomed from his earpiece. "The Drake Milestone’s strike team is thirty seconds away. Give the order." Jax stared at the lead gunman who was raising a silenced pistol directly at Madeline's head. "Don't wait for the strike team," Jax ordered coldly, his voice echoing in the dark street. "Kill them all now."
