Chapter 3

The entire boardroom erupted into a panic. The board members scrambled back from the table, looking at Jax as if he were a ghost. Thomas Vance looked like he was about to faint, realizing that the "nobody" he had just insulted was the master of the legendary Drake Milestone. Madeline stood up slowly, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Jax. "An assassin guild? Jax, what kind of world do you live in?" "A world where people don't like losing, Madeline," Jax replied, his face completely expressionless. He turned to the lead lawyer. "Who is the assassin they hired?" "The Ghost Blade, sir," the lawyer whispered, his voice trembling. "He has never missed a target. He is already inside the city limits." Jax simply nodded. He turned back to the trembling board members, his gaze locking onto Thomas Vance. "Your funds will remain frozen until I decide otherwise, Thomas. If you breathe a word of what you saw here today to anyone, including Vivian, your family will disappear from the face of the earth." Thomas nodded furiously, his mouth moving but no sound coming out. "Let's go, Madeline," Jax said, turning toward the door. "We have a wedding to prepare for, and I have a guest to welcome tonight." Madeline followed him out of the room, her mind racing. She had entered a contract marriage to save her company, but now she realized she had tied herself to a man who operated in the highest echelons of global power. Hours later, the sun had set, and a thick fog rolled over the Vance estate. Jax sat alone in the dark study of the mansion, a single glass of scotch resting on the desk in front of him. The room was silent, save for the sound of the rain tapping against the glass. Suddenly, the temperature in the room seemed to drop. A faint rustle of wind blew through the heavy velvet curtains. "You're late," Jax said to the empty room, not even turning his head. A shadow detached itself from the wall near the bookshelf. A tall man dressed entirely in matte-black armor stepped into the dim light, a razor-sharp silver blade gripped tightly in his hand. The Ghost Blade. "You knew I was coming," the assassin hissed, his voice sounding like grinding stones. "But knowing won't save you. The ironworks faction paid ten million dollars for your head." "Ten million?" Jax let out a soft, amused chuckle, taking a slow sip of his drink. "Vivian always did underestimate my value." The assassin lunged forward with blinding speed, his blade cutting through the air straight toward Jax’s throat. Jax didn't move from his chair. Just as the blade was an inch away from his skin, Jax reached out two fingers, catching the cold steel between them with impossible precision. The force of the catch sent a shockwave through the room, shattering the glass desk. The Ghost Blade’s eyes widened in pure terror beneath his mask. He tried to pull the sword back, but it was locked in place as if cemented into a mountain. "Who... who are you?" the assassin gasped, cold sweat breaking out across his skin. "No normal target can catch a blade from the Ghost Guild!" Jax slowly stood up, twisting his fingers. The silver blade snapped into a dozen pieces with a loud, metallic c***k. Jax stepped closer, his eyes glowing with a dark, terrifying intensity that made the legendary killer fall to his knees from the sheer pressure. "Go back to the ironworks faction," Jax commanded, his voice dropping into a lethal whisper. "Tell Vivian and her brother that their investment has failed. And tell them I will see them at the auction tomorrow." The assassin didn't hesitate. He scrambled backward, jumping out of the shattered window into the night, terrified for his life. The next morning, the grand corporate convention center was packed with the elite of the business world. Flashbulbs went off continuously as billionaires and high-profile investors walked the red carpet. Vivian and her mother, Beatrice, stood near the VIP lounge, holding glasses of champagne. They were laughing, surrounded by local businessmen who were congratulating them on their upcoming merger with Thomas Vance’s faction. "Did you hear?" Beatrice whispered gleefully to her daughter. "That loser Jax hasn't been seen since yesterday. The police database says his bail was posted by a ghost company, but he’s probably hiding in a ditch somewhere." "He's probably dead," Vivian said coldly, a cruel smile on her face. "My brother made sure of it. Today, we buy the remaining shares of the Vance Group, and Madeline Vance will be forced to step down. We win, Mother." Suddenly, the heavy doors of the convention hall opened, and the entire room went completely silent. Jax walked into the hall. He was no longer wearing his cheap grocery store jacket. He wore a custom, midnight-black tailored tuxedo that cost more than Vivian’s entire yearly salary. His hair was perfectly styled, and his presence was so commanding that the crowd naturally parted to let him through. Walking right next to him, her arm linked with his, was Madeline Vance, looking stunning in a diamond-encrusted gown. Vivian’s champagne glass slipped from her hand, smashing onto the marble floor. "No... that's impossible! How are you alive?" Jax walked straight up to Vivian and her mother, stopping just inches away. The entire media crowd rushed over, pointing their cameras at the dramatic confrontation. "You look like you've seen a ghost, Vivian," Jax said smoothly, his voice carrying across the silent hall. "Jax! You thief!" Beatrice yelled, trying to save face in front of the cameras. "How dare you show your face here after what you did to our company? Security! Throw this criminal out!" "I wouldn't do that if I were you, Beatrice," Madeline Vance spoke up, her voice dripping with absolute authority. "Because my husband doesn't need permission to stand in a building he just bought." Vivian staggered back, her eyes wide with horror as she looked at Jax. "Husband? Bought? What are you talking about?" Jax pulled out his black phone, pressing a single button. Instantly, the massive projector screens on the main stage of the convention hall flashed to life, displaying the official corporate registry documents in giant, bold letters. "As of five minutes ago," Jax announced, looking down at Vivian with absolute disdain, "I have purchased one hundred percent of your family's bank debt and seized your corporate assets. You are completely bankrupt, Vivian." The crowd gasped loudly, reporters frantically typing on their devices. Vivian’s face went completely red, tears of humiliation welling up in her eyes as she realized her entire life had just been dismantled in public. "You can't do this!" Vivian screamed, grabbing Jax’s arm. "Jax, please! We were married for three years! You loved me! You can't destroy my family!" Jax coldly brushed her hand off his sleeve, turning his back on her as Madeline smiled elegantly next to him. "You chose money over loyalty, Vivian," Jax whispered, not even looking back at her. "Now, you have neither." Just as Jax and Madeline began to walk toward the main stage to take their seats as the new owners of the conglomerate, the main doors of the hall blasted open once more. A line of soldiers dressed in international military uniforms marched in, their weapons raised. At the front of the line walked a middle-aged man with a scarred face, wearing a chest full of medals. He locked his eyes onto Jax and drew a golden revolver. "Sovereign Lord Jax Drake!" the commander roared, aiming the weapon directly at Jax's chest. "By order of the Supreme Global Council, you are charged with high treason against the international treaty. Hands behind your head, or we op en fire on this entire room right now!”
