The Ceremony Of Rejection
The night sky burned with silver light as the full moon hung above the Darkmoon Pack. The clearing was filled with whispers, laughter, and the heavy scent of wolves gathered together for one sacred reason—the Luna Ceremony. My heart thundered in my chest as I stood at the edge of the circle, my hands trembling despite the cool wind brushing against my skin. Tonight, I would find my fated mate.
For twenty years, I had been told I was nothing but an omega. Weak. A burden. A girl meant to serve and bow, not to dream of love. But tonight was supposed to change everything. The Moon Goddess herself would prove them wrong.
“Move aside, omega,” sneered Kira, the Alpha’s daughter, as she brushed past me, her silk dress sparkling under the moonlight. “Don’t embarrass yourself when the bond rejects you. Who would ever be mated to trash like you?”
Her words cut deep, but I pressed my lips together and refused to give her the satisfaction of seeing me break. I wrapped my arms tighter around my thin shawl and stepped into the circle as the elder raised his staff.
“The Moon Goddess blesses us with bonds that cannot be broken,” his voice echoed. “Tonight, fates shall be revealed.”
I closed my eyes, my heart hammering. The world around me seemed to still. My wolf stirred inside me, whispering in excitement. And then it happened—
A scent. Strong, intoxicating, like cedar and smoke. My entire body trembled as my eyes flew open. Across the circle, his gaze locked with mine.
Alpha Damon.
The pack’s most feared leader. Tall, powerful, broad shoulders under his black ceremonial cloak, his aura pressed against me with suffocating force. My wolf howled in recognition, her voice ringing inside my head.
Mate.
Gasps rippled through the crowd as everyone turned to look at him, then at me. Their eyes widened with shock, some with disgust. I was trembling, barely able to breathe. Me—an omega? Fated to the Alpha?
Damon stepped forward, his eyes burning into mine. My heart leapt with hope. Maybe the Goddess had blessed me after all. Maybe everything I suffered—
But then his lips curved into a cruel smirk.
“No.” His voice was sharp, cutting through me like a blade. “This has to be a mistake.”
The crowd erupted in whispers. My knees weakened.
“I, Alpha Damon of the Darkmoon Pack,” he raised his voice, cold and merciless, “reject you, omega. I reject you as my mate.”
The words slammed into my chest, shattering something deep inside me. My wolf whimpered, curling into a ball. Pain exploded through me, sharp and unbearable, like my soul was being ripped apart.
Gasps filled the night air. Some wolves laughed. Others looked at me with pity. My vision blurred with tears as I struggled to stay upright.
“No… please,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “Moon Goddess—”
But Damon turned his back to me, his rejection final.
Laughter rang out. Kira’s voice pierced through the crowd. “I told you! The Goddess would never bless an omega with an Alpha mate. What a disgrace.”
I stumbled back, clutching my chest as if I could hold the broken pieces of my heart together. My wolf whimpered louder, fading, bleeding.
But just as I thought I would collapse, another scent hit me.
Wild. Untamed. Like the forest after a storm.
My body froze. Slowly, I turned my head—only to see a pair of golden eyes staring at me from the edge of the clearing. A man stepped forward, taller than most, his dark hair messy, his jaw sharp. A rogue. A stranger. His aura was powerful, dangerous, yet undeniably familiar.
My wolf stirred again, this time stronger, louder.
Mate.
The crowd gasped louder than before. Two mates? Impossible.
My lips parted, my breath trembling. I could barely comprehend it. First, the Alpha had rejected me—and now, the Goddess had given me another?
The rogue’s golden eyes narrowed on Damon before flicking back to me. His lips curled, not into cruelty, but into something like possession.
“You’re mine,” he growled, his voice low and commanding. “My mate.”
The pack went wild, their voices overlapping in shock, fear, and outrage. Damon whipped around, fury flashing in his eyes.
I stood frozen, torn between the agony of rejection and the bewildering pull of this second bond. My body shook, my wolf cried, and my heart raced with terror and hope all at once.
But the night was not done with me.
Because just as the elder tried to calm the chaos, the wind shifted again. Another scent slammed into me. Stronger. Darker. Like smoke and fire wrapped in forbidden magic.
I gasped, clutching my chest. My wolf’s voice roared inside my head, trembling with disbelief.
Mate.
Not one.
Not two.
Three.
The world spun around me as my knees gave way. The pack’s screams echoed in my ears, Damon’s roar shaking the clearing, the rogue baring his teeth in defiance—and from the shadows, a third figure stepped forward, his eyes glowing like the flames of hell itself.
The Moon Goddess had cursed me. Or blessed me.
I was fated—
Not to one.
Not to two.
But to three.
And the night of my rejection had only just begun.
