At the beginning of time, gods lived they thrived on creating creatures. Lycan's, Vampires, Fey, Witches, Demons and Dragons. Our world filled with myths, fantasy's and legends of the past. As a child we believe in them all because we fear them. Yet as an adult we live a life already so full of fear, that our imagination no longer allows us to worry. To worry what creeps in the darkness just ready and waiting for us to let our guard down. Waiting to devour us all!!
Ava's P.O.V
Darkness surrounds me and all I can hear is the thumping of my heart, my senses yet heightened are failing me, I feel only the air of my own breath. The metalic taste that fills my mouth also burns my nostrils. I can smell the burning of fire, I can feel heat radiating through my skin. You would think I would be afraid but instead I'm intrigued wishing my eyes to adjust to the darkness around me. Then out of no where I see Amethyst eyes looking through the darkness.
“Ava come on your going to be late” mom shouted in a high pitch tone that brought me back to reality from my strange and curious dream. Trying to will my eyes open, I grumbled and rubbed my head I hate waking up early, “Okay mom I'm up” I lied pulling the quilt over my head.
That was until I hear her foot steps loudly stamping up the bare wooden stairs, I realised I better get up before she opens my bedroom door. I rushed out of bed as quickly as my body would carry me and switched my shower on. Grabbing any clothes for the day from my wardrobe, not really paying much attention to them. I practically threw them on my bed and hopped into the shower.
The fast running water was barely lukewarm, yet I would rather throw myself beneath it than have to feel the wrath that was my mother. I shivered pushing my head under the water and rubbing a handful of shampoo into my scalp. My bedroom door bursts open and my mom came stomping in “Are you in the shower?” she questioned, “Yeah mom I wont be long” I lied “Is this what your wearing Ava? She quizzed me, I stopped and pondered the question for a moment “Yeah mom why?” I called out curiously. Unknown to me I had picked out a pajama top and a pair of jogging bottoms, “You have literally just got up haven't you?” she called out with an impatient tone, I rolled my eyes and let out a small frustrated sigh, “You've got fifteen minutes Ava!” she said sharply slamming the bedroom door behind her. My mom always came off as some sort of psychic when it came to me and my antics, or maybe that's all mom's.
Today is my first day at a new school 'woods high school'. We moved to this quiet little country from a busy town. My mom got a new job yay! Note the level of sarcasm in my voice. Dad has his own business and firm so he can work from anywhere. Don't get me wrong the house is nice, well it's huge. Leaving my old school wasn't an issue, it's not like I had an abundance of friends or any at all really. I am an acquired taste and as of yet, this Marmite girl is hated by everyone. Here in this small country, well there are just so many tree's and wildlife, we used to live in the city.
Where everything was near by, there was constant noise even early hours of the morning there was humming from the big bill boards. Distractions my dad would call them. I loved it though, the electricity of a city gives off waves of power it makes you vibrate all over with enthusiasm. Where as here “urgh” it's going to take me an hour to get to school, good bye late night's and hello early morning's. Getting out of the shower I brushed my teeth and swilled my mouth. I rubbed moisturiser into my skin, looking at my reflection in the mirror I noticed a cold blue fleck in my eyes, my eyes are aqua so blue is usually there but it's always been darker. Shrugging it off I patted my hair dry and just pulled it into a high pony, I looked at the clothes I had picked out and yeah there's no way I am wearing those! I opened my wardrobe and fount a pair of light blue skinny jeans, a white t shirt and my peach oversized hoody.
By the time I had got down stairs mom and dad had both finished there breakfast, my mom had wrapped up my sandwich to go. At least I will still have time to eat on the long drive to school. My mom Faith is a petite blonde, with light blue eyes her skin was quite pale, she reminded me of a porcelain doll. Always looking great, especially in her formal wear. My dad was quite tall being roughly 6 ft and he was broad. His tanned skin made my mom look paler, dark brown hair that was slithered with specs of grey. Bright Aqua eyes that I'm sure sparkled gold when my mom was around, yet ice blue when he was annoyed. “Come on Ava, I will drop you off for today” he said, my mom tutted. The only reason my Dad is dropping me off is so any boys will see his size and leave me alone, he takes pride in intimidating the younger generation.
We all leave the house together, My mom and dad kissed each other good bye and I rolled my eyes at them, Although really it is kind of sweet that they still show such affection towards each other, they've been together so long yet they still show each other so much love. I want that kind of love some day although I would never show that to my parents. My dad got in the car and started trying to make conversation with me “Are you nervous petal?” he asked with a concerned tone “No Dad I'm fine” I lied and he could obviously tell “there's nothing to worry about, being the new kid Ava if anything they will find you interesting” he said to me with a huge smile on his face “Yeah of course with my huge dad stepping out of his car to wave me off to scare all the boys away and have the preppy little princess's ogle” I said in a sarcastic tone, which earned me a deep chuckle from my dad.
Finally we arrived at my new school, It looked different to any of the other schools I've been to and moving around all my life I've been to a lot, this one was surrounded by guess what? large tree's of course! A small flowing river and lots of natural surroundings. Student's littering all around, I took a moment to assess my surroundings. Taking a deep breath I grabbed my bag and got ready to run and hide from the embarrassment that is my dad. Yet when I opened my car door he didn't even unbuckle his belt let alone attempt to get out of the car “Have a good day petal” he said to me quietly a small smile on his lips. I eyed him suspiciously wondering what he's up to, I gave him a small smile and rushed to the school entrance before he changed his mind.
Lost in my escape I ran like an i***t and collided with a rock hard wall and fell on my backside. I groaned and cursed under my breath, “s**t! Great way to start your first day in a new school Ava, lets just hope no one saw you”, I said to no one. Dusting myself off I hear someone clearing there throat and a deep laugh, I looked up so slowly full of anticipation, to realise it certainly wasn't a wall I had ran into it was a huge guy. He looked like a Greek god he was gorgeous, his black lustrous hair was messy and wild with little curls, his ivory skin looked like caramel. He has a chiselled jaw and high cheek bones. His eyes where a deep chocolate brown with almost honeycomb gold flecks.
His shirt clung tight to his broad chest, I could see his muscles through the thin cotton. A leather jacket draped his frame perfectly. I'm sure if he could read my mind now he would think stalker. He had his hand extended to help me up, but come on a guy like this was obviously popular and where there's a popular hot guy there's usually a popular b***h! Embarrassment flushed my cheeks and I stood up quickly not making any eye contact and walked in the complete opposite direction, not apologising or acknowledging him at all before I go crawl under a rock and die.
I some how managed to find my way to the office in this maze of a school. When I got there a petite girl like me with a lot of piercings in her face and bright pink hair stood waiting. I tried not to stare but iv never seen eyes so ice cold blue as hers they were almost the same colour as a melting icicle, they seemed to be sparkling slightly as well maybe its contacts. She was staring straight at me, maybe she thought I was being rude not introducing myself then she spoke “Hey I'm Lana” she said in a soft voice, shaking off the dazed feeling I looked at her and smiled “I'm Ava” I replied, “Your new here?” she more or less stated rather than asked, I just nodded my head. Grabbing a sheet of paper from the secretary, she looked back to me “Well see you around new kid” she waved as she walked out of the office.
“Ava carter” a familiar voice called out I turned round to be faced with one of my dad's long time friends that used to visit us back in the city, “Joe! Or should I call you Mr yems here?” I said with a big smile on my face “Mr Yems please Ava, I would give you a hug as well but I don't want to ruin your life as you kids say” he chuckled. I stood with my hand on my hip looking at him waiting for some explanation. “I am the head teacher here Ava you don't think your dad would allow you to go to just any school did you?” he questioned me with a smirk on his face. No wonder he didn't get out the car he already had a man on the inside, I'm so going to deal with him later. “Evidently not” I said with a small hint of sarcasm he is now of course my head teacher. “I will show you around quickly and take you to your first class” my breath hitched at the idea of his special treatment, what if the other students see him treat me differently, there going to automatically think I'm a teachers pet. My mind working hundred miles an hour, Joe laughed “don't worry Ava I do it with all new students” he says.
This school is huge! I think I'm definitely going to need a map they had three gyms plus an outdoor assault course, not entirely sure why they need this many. I wasn't really too interested as I hate being in those sweaty places anyway and usually fake a note to ditch the class, the smell alone was enough to make your skin crawl, let alone the hygiene side of it as well just thinking about it made a shiver run down my spine “urgh”. My dad makes me train daily at home, so I get more than enough exercise from him. “Well here you are, your English teacher is Amy” he said smiling before he opened the door, I know my English teacher and the head teacher great. No chance of slacking off in school then. Joe still introduced me so he didn't give away that we had any relationship to the other students “Sorry to interrupt your class Mrs Yems we have a new student, this is Ava Carter” he said with a smirk on his face, “Hello Ava pleased to meet you, take any spare seat” she says as I scan the room to the only spare seat left in the classroom before Joe left. I nodded and walked to the empty seat keeping my head down and away from judging glares.
Cole's P.O.V
I was waiting for my friend Brett, he is always late. For a beta he really is lazy, that will have to change when I finally become Alpha of dark woods pack. My uncle's the head teacher of this supernatural school. Although there were, wolfs, demons and fey attending this school, we all kept to ourselves in our own pack. Humans attended the school too but only those that knew of our existence, they were usually children of council members, or they where the ones born without powers, which doesn't happen very often.
Waiting for Brett I was lost in my own thoughts, when a sweet smell invaded my nostrils, it was a mixture of candy floss and roses. I turned around and started walking forward as max my wolf was howling excitedly in my head, caught in a daze I felt someone run into my chest. I looked down to be met by the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. Dusting herself off and cursing under her breath, which made me laugh “Mate” max yapped. I wasn't sure yet as she hadn't looked up I needed to see her eyes, or touch her to be certain, even if her scents never been here before it smelt alluring yet familiar to me. She looked up taking in my appearance, she was breath taking! dirty blonde hair and bright green almost aqua eyes with crystal ice blue flecks, it was like looking into a deep Caribbean ocean I'm sure I saw a fleck of gold too. She had pale skin and was a tiny little thing, I tried to offer her my hand but her cheeks flushed with red and she marched off in different direction, not giving anything else away.
Who was this girl? Max whined “Mate doesn't like us” I did wonder if he was right, “she looked shook up more than anything max” I say inwardly trying to reassure him. I began thinking about how small she was, she was probably a few years younger, or human even. At this moment I don't really care if she's a pixie “she might not register us as her mate yet” I said to Max. Thoughts where flooding my head, until I get abruptly snapped out of my daze by Brett “Hey hey Cole” he said clicking his fingers in front of my eyes. “What's wrong with you” he said putting a hand on my shoulder, “nothing I shook my head, just a bit of banter with max while I waited for your lazy ass” I said in a playful tone.
We walked into the English lesson my Auntie's the teacher not as fun as you might think, having an aunt and uncle working in the school they're harder on me, much more than anyone else. I was distracted in my own thoughts when the classroom door swung open and the smell invaded my nose again “Mate” max yapped at me again. I looked up to see her standing there she barely reached my uncles chest “She is so beautiful” max yapped and started howling in my head, I had to block him out no way was I dealing with him all day. She stood there looking down at the floor, her long dark eyelashes worn as a hood for her eyes so she didn't need to make any eye contact, was she nervous, shy or just not interested in her surroundings. Uncle Joe introduced her, he caught my attention as he said her name 'Ava'.
She came and sat down next to me it was the only seat in the classroom still empty, yet she didn't look up at me. I felt invisible to her and it hurt me to no end, I was about to speak to her when Lana the Fey spoke to her first. I really didn't like her being round a fey there not the 'friend' type but could be worse, at least there honest! She could be sat next to a conniving demon, like Faiban I caught him looking in her direction and I couldn't help but glare at him. I left her to talk with Lana as I didn't want to confuse things for her on her first day. Although it was killing me not to speak to her, I hadn't heard her voice clearly yet either I imagined it to be a beautiful melody.
I kept my distance in classes yet still staying close by, I was always a table behind or in front. Lunch time I walked into the dining hall and was curious to see where she would sit. Everyone sits in there own little factions, werewolves, Fey's, Demons and then human's. Although the humans here knew of our existence, not all humans do. Only human's of the councils kids came here maybe her mom or dad was on the council but she didn't seem to know anything not that I could tell anyway.
I followed her into the cue clearing my throat whilst behind her, she turned to face me and her face burned with embarrassment again “Hey I'm Cole” I held my hand out to shake hers, I just needed to touch her to be certain “Hey, um I'm, uh Ava” she said nervously her voice was as I thought a soothing melody. She looked uncertain of my hand but shook it lightly that's when I felt tiny sparks. “She is our mate” I said inwardly to max, she lowered her eyes and snatched her hand back quickly “I'm sorry about this morning, I was really embarrassed” she said honestly, that's quite refreshing “It's okay I walked into you too, I was waiting for my be- I mean Brett my friend” I said now feeling my cheeks glowing a bit “Oh I thought you might have been waiting for a girlfriend” she said looking away slightly.
I was about to answer her when I felt a hand hit my shoulder “Hey Cole who's this?” he asked in a teasing way “This is Ava, Brett she's new here” I said and mind linked him quickly “I think she's human and my mate, she doesn't seem to know we exist” he smiled at me “Where have you moved from Ava?” he asked instantly, why didn't I think of asking her that?. When did he become the relaxed one and I become the stuttering bag of nerves? “We just moved here from the city, my Mom got a new job so here we are” she seemed relaxed around Brett, I don't like him talking or looking at my mate, but she's relaxed finally I'll have to push my jealousy to one side until I know more about her at least.
Lana came and joined the line, her and Ava looked at each other and smiled I think they where becoming friends “Lana you can go in front of me if you want to stand with Ava” I said politely, she looked at me questionably but shrugged, “Okay thanks” she said and Ava gave me a small smile that reached her eyes the blue flecks in her eyes sparkle and then shined gold, she tucked her hair behind her ears and looked down to the floor as her cheeks blushed lightly at me and she bit her lip, I really just wanted to pick her up and run off with her.
Once they got there food I thought Lana may go sit with the other fey's with Ava but she didn't they fount an empty table near by and was lost in conversation again, I wondered how close they will become and what it was that may lay dormant within Ava, with eyes like hers she is certainly not human. Yet she did seem aware, I looked around to see if anyone else was curious about her, a couple of the fey threw glances and whispered amongst themselves. Still scanning the room I caught Faiban's eyes glowing at her, I couldn't tell if he was curious or irritated by her presence as his brow was furrowed at her and he didn't seem to care if anyone noticed.
Ava's P.O.V
Today was an odd first day to say the least, I had some glares and people whispering about me but the end of the school day came very quickly luckily. I actually made friends too on my first day, first time for everything. I waited outside the school for my dad when I saw Cole with a younger lad, “Hey Ava this is my brother Axel” he introduced his brother to me, and he looked like a younger version of Cole but with grey eyes. “Hey nice to meet you” I said to Axel he was quite tall I don't know how old he is but he looked younger in the face than Cole, he nodded his head but didn't speak. “Do you need a lift?” Cole asked me and my cheeks instantly flushed, what is with that today, I am not shy anything but, I am loud and outspoken, that's part of the reason I didn't fit in at any of my old schools. “Erm thanks but my Dad's coming to collect me, I usually drive myself everywhere but he didn't want me to get lost on my first day” I rambled justifying myself to him, Axel seemed to snigger and Cole looked slightly disappointed. I heard my dad's car horn, saved by the annoying honk! I waved to the guys and ran over to my dad's car.
