Chapter 8: The Rescue
The abandoned warehouse was silent except for the sound of rain falling on its rusted roof. Ethan stepped out of his car and looked around carefully. The warning echoed in his mind.
"Come alone. No police."
He took a deep breath and walked toward the large metal door.
Inside, Lily struggled against the ropes tied around her wrists. She heard footsteps and looked up, hoping it was Ethan.
Instead, Daniel entered the room.
"I hope you're comfortable," he said with a cruel smile.
"What do you want from Ethan?" Lily demanded.
Daniel's eyes darkened.
"Years ago, my father's company collapsed after Ethan's father's business failed. My family lost everything. My father never recovered from the shame. Since then, I've waited for the perfect chance to make Ethan feel the same pain."
"But none of that was Ethan's fault," Lily replied firmly.
Daniel laughed.
"Sometimes people pay for the mistakes of others."
Before he could say another word, the warehouse doors burst open.
"Ethan!" Lily cried.
Ethan rushed inside, his eyes searching until they found Lily.
"Lily!"
He ran toward her, but Daniel's men stepped into his path.
A fight broke out. Ethan dodged one attacker and pushed another aside, determined to reach Lily. He finally untied the ropes around her wrists.
"Are you hurt?" he asked.
"I'm fine," Lily answered, though her hands trembled.
Daniel pulled out a small knife and pointed it toward Ethan.
"You should have stayed away."
Ethan stood protectively in front of Lily.
"If you want revenge, take it out on me. Leave Lily alone."
For a moment, Daniel hesitated.
Then the sound of police sirens echoed outside.
Victoria appeared at the warehouse entrance.
"I called the police," she said. "This has gone too far."
Daniel looked around in panic. Realizing he was surrounded, he fled through a back door with two of his men before the officers could catch him.
The police freed the remaining hostages and searched the warehouse, but Daniel had disappeared into the night.
Outside, the rain had stopped.
Lily turned to Victoria.
"You saved us."
Victoria lowered her eyes.
"I made many mistakes, but I couldn't let anyone get hurt because of my past."
Lily smiled gently.
"Thank you."
Victoria nodded before quietly walking away.
Ethan took Lily's hand.
"I almost lost you."
She squeezed his hand.
"But you didn't."
They stood together beneath the clearing sky, unaware that Daniel was watching them from a distant hill.
He clenched his fists.
"This isn't over," he whispered. "The next time, Ethan won't be so lucky."
Far above, dark clouds gathered once again, hinting that the greatest battle for love was still to come.
