Yes Coach
The sun was pretty high and the air was hot. Very hot. The boys were all in their positions as sweat dripped from their bodies with heat and strong football odor emanating from their jerseys which had gotten plastered on their poor worn out skins.
Harris had a deep frown on his face as he lightly rolled the ball under his feet. His fierce green eyes were fixated on the coach and his dirty blond hair which had been dampened with sweat perked in all angles and directions. They had been practicing since morning and the boys were tired to their bones.
Coach Wolfhard stood on the sidelines with a whistle between his lips and a frown that was deeper than that of Harris's. He tapped his foot impatiently as he stared at his lineup before heaving his 200th sigh that day. One thing was evident, nobody wanted to be here.
"Ayd boys. You've been good. Practice is over." Wolfhard announced dropping his clipboard on the bench. This gained a loud sigh of relief as the boys skipped off to the locker room. Those crazy enough began undressing on their way.
"Not so fast Cooper." Wolfhard added.
"Yh f**k it." Harris hissed under his breath as he threw his head back in annoyed.
"You really thought you were gonna get away?" Mason snickered at Harris on his way off the field.
"Some best friend you are McKinnon." Harris rolled his eyes and made his way over to the coach whose frown had disappeared after he lowered his bottle of mountain dew.
"I liked your energy today son, your dribbles were great and your skill was superb. But the final is in two days." Wolfhard raised his eyebrows expectantly, like he was expecting Harris to telepathically get the rest of the message.
Of course Harris got it, Wolfhard will typically say he did great but the finals were in two days so he needs him 'to get out of his comfort zone and play like a beast'.
But no, Harris wouldn't say anything. Why? Because it was his job to taunt and annoy the coach. His speciality.
Wolfhard had his brows raised almost a full minute before he rolled his eyes and gave in.
"I'll need you to get out of your comfort zone and play like a beast kid. Those rich bastards you'll be playing with, I don’t know which expensive steroids they've been injected for them to have won the private schools division but they’re gonna come unto you fierce. And not just the team, you. Harris Cooper. Captain of Wolfhard high school. and...."
At that moment Harris zoned out. Wait seriously?! Under the sun… tired and hungry, coach now decides to give a pep talk?
He needed some Mac and cheese. And a hot tub. Its 2pm which means Fiona wouldn't be back home from school yet. He was definitely getting the hot tub.
"...and dont make 'em see it coming. Be a challenge, stand your ground..."
But dad would be home which means limited freedom but still its all good. He's gonna take what he can get, which is the hot tub. If so then he'd better beat Fiona's ass to it.
"...you get that Cooper?"
"Yes coach. Never been clearer. We should stay in good form, eat well, get some rest. And by that I'm pretty sure those plans include’s a hot tub so I better get home before your perky cheerleader does." Harris ranted on and quickly skipped off before Wolfhard replied.
"That was nothing liked I said Cooper!!" Wolfhard bellowed after him.
"Exactly coach!!" The boy replied with a grin as he disappeared from sight. He wondered why the coach still gave pep talks when he clearly knew they zone out each time.
As for those rich bastards at Diamond high, well they were definitely going to get what's coming for them.
"Well, well, well. Took you longer than the usual 36 minutes 18 seconds. What changed?" Mason was the first to speak as Harris entered the locker room. He makes fun of him each time Wolfhard called him aside to give him the talk.
"Well let's see, there's a warm and extremely comfortable beauty I need to return to." Harris stressed dramatically putting both palms on his heart.
"Cooper you dating?" Kevin quickly appeared from nowhere catching mason and harris off guard. He had a quizzical look on his face.
"Err..." Harris stressed glancing confusedly back and forth between mason and Kevin.
"He's talking about his hot tub you dickhead." Mason snorted and rolled his eyes.
Kevin's lips formed into an 'o' and he smiled sheepishly as he returned to wherever he had appeared from.
"I wasn't aware people were interest in my love life." Harris said as he stripped from his dump jersey into a towel.
"Maybe if you had had one we would have left you alone." Rashford spoke from his locker.
Harris shook his head and pouted.
"And who said I didn't?" He inquired.
Mason quickly broke into fits of laughter which his team mates couldn't help but join in.
"Hey!" Harris whined and threw his hands up in disbelief.
Mason just laughed on.
"Seriously dude what made you ask that? I could barely put your name and 'love' in the same sentence." He cackled on.
Harris shook his head in annoyance as he continued to get ready for the shower.
"But seriously Cooper," Paul joined "you can have any girl you want. You've got the money, popularity, the grades, looks..... And you still single? Not that I dont notice them chics flirting with you every morning." He wiggled his brows
"Or maybe he's gay." Mason smirked evilly. This erupted fits of laughter across the locker room.
Mason was walking right into that on. Harris simply smiled in amusement. and said,
"Ha! How I wish. Then I could have this pretty boy all to myself." He flicked masons ear and winked licking his lips.
Mason face turned hot with embarrassment as his joke backfired on him. And mason hated embarrassment.
"Get your hands off perv." He flicked Harris off. "And f**k you!"he added.
Harris just laughed and as he enjoyed making his best friend miserable. "Yh right. You wish." He snorted as he made his way to the showers.
Not long after that he pulled up at home. Fiona's red Porsche was parked right below the stairs. She was home.
Fuck it.
All that rush was for nothing. Great. Just great.
"Mr Cooper you're home." The middle aged man greeted him with smiles as he got his car door for him.
"Hey Reginald. Wassup?" Harris said skipping the formalities. He's known their butler and cook since zero and he pretty much considered him as family now. Of course Reginald still takes his work seriously and is formal and all that, but sometimes he loosens up a bit. One cannot not loosen up around Harris.
The poor man sighed, Harris will make him loose his job one day.
"Well I'm great sir. Was your day nice sir?"
Harris took a deep breath recalling the days events,
"Well if you describe being forced to practice from dawn to noon with just a little break time as nice then yes Regi, I had a perfect day" he smiled.
Reginald smiled and stared at Harris fondly. He could never get enough of this kid.
"If it will make your day any better then, newsflash I prepared some Mac cheese and its on the dinner table you could......"
Before he could finish his sentence Harris skipped of into the large glassy mansion with his new found adrenaline
"...invite Fiona to have a bite." Reginald finally finished. Its not like harris would share anyway, he was wasting his breath.
The middle aged man smiled with amusement as he followed Harris inside. Those two kids were going to be the death of him.
