Avalon and I really got to know each other over the weekend, we kept our phones off to avoid having to be bothered. I invited Avalon to stay as long as she wanted to and she happily accepted, she didn’t want to be anywhere near scary scar dude (a.k.a Blake). I knew my clothes would be a little bit big for her but she said that she didn’t mind it, saying that they were a lot more comfortable than what she was always told to wear.
Turns out there are a lot of things I don’t know about my family. My mom comes from a long line of witches and my dad from vampires. Avalon explained to me that there were many different types of supernatural creatures that are actually real, there are even whole families of them. I’m part of the Astor branch family on my mothers side which is an entire coven in itself.
Avalon is part of the Van Doren bloodline since she is the daughter of the current head, Craven Van Doren, her brother Caspian is the heir and next in line. Their family is one of the main three who call themselves The Royals, which I think is just an excuse to be assholes.
The Royals are the main head families who basically are really rich stuck up pricks that watch and keep order over anything not human. The Van Dorens: Hellhounds, the Astors: witches of course, and then the Barons: Vampires.
“So I’ve been kind of curious, can Hellhounds turn into wolves?” We sat at a table in a secluded area of the open area outside that connected to the dining hall on campus.
“Some can transform if they're strong enough, other than that they just have abilities similar to that of one.” Avalon unwrapped her cheeseburger and took a huge bite.
I watched her not even fazed the slightest bit until she noticed and realized what she did and blushed.
“Sorry, I usually don't get to eat stuff like this because of Blake. He hates it when I always eat junk food.” She said shyly.
“Why did your parent’s marry you off to him?”
“I’m just their daughter, even worse the second born. I have no claim to anything, all I have is my name. And even that doesn’t mean much to a woman.” Avalon was getting frustrated.
I could tell that she didn’t like Blake much at all, but I also got this faint feeling of puppy love. Kind of like what someone would feel towards their first crush.
“Avalon, do you actually have feelings for him?”
A sense of guilt and embarrassment washed over her now, and I regretted asking.
“Hey I'm sorry I asked, just forget it.”
“No it's okay.” She shook her head, “We grew up together, him and Caspian are the same age. Blake actually used to be sweet and as we grew older I developed feelings, despite him becoming a total player. I was the only one he was ever truly real with.” Avalons feelings kept shifting from love to hate to pain, the back and forth made me feel nauseous.
“Excuse me.” I jumped out of my seat and ran to the nearest tree, heaving what was once my breakfast.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, you just have a rollercoaster of emotions.”
I sat back down at our table pushing away my food suddenly feeling not so hungry.
“What?”
Before I could answer a deep voice spoke from behind me.
“She’s an empath.” I turn to see Caspian staring at me with hungry eyes.
“Interesting”
I ran.
(Caspian)
I wasn’t expecting a fiery spirit like her with hair to match. When my parents told me that they had found a suitable wife for me there were constant fights between us. Even more so when I was told that she was born ordinary. Eris Evans, the daughter of Iris and Luther Evans, a witch and a vampire. Usually when a child is born from two different species they’ll inherit either one or the other, never neither. I should have known something was off when they didn’t tell me about the dinner party until the last minute, and I was prepared to give them hell the whole night. All those feelings melted away when I laid eyes on her.
My mate.
Meeting your mate is a rare occurrence, almost nobody meets their other half. So for me to meet mine was an opportunity I refused to let pass and my mind was set. I was going to make her mine, and seeing first hand how bad her attitude was I relished the challenge. It came as no surprise that she had a mouth on her by the way she spoke to me that day in the parking lot. Oh the fun I’m going to have putting her in her place. If she hadn’t sped off I for sure would have pulled her into the back of my car and given her a good spanking.
I was told that she attended the same college as my little sister and was secretly hoping I'd run into her today as Blake and I searched the campus for Avalon. We haven’t heard or seen her in a few days and I had begun to worry, Blake has mentioned she also hasn’t been home either. I asked him if he's noticed anything different or off with her and just brushed it off as her being emotional or something.
After searching for over an hour I finally caught Avalon’s scent, along with Eris. I took note to memorize Eris’s scent to heart both times meating. The sweet smell of apples and palm trees warmed my body, which is something I've never experienced when smelling someone's scent. The scent brought us to a secluded part of the campus that was being used as an outside cafeteria. Avalon and Eris sat alone talking to each other, then suddenly Eris jumps up running to a tree becoming violently sick.
I wanted to run to her, to make sure she was okay, I wanted to protect my mate. Before I understood what I was doing I was standing behind Eris as she sat back down in his seat.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, you just have a rollercoaster of emotions.” Eris pushed away her lunch.
“What?”
Avalon sat confused at what Eris had just said, but I caught on to it instantly. Eris was feeling everything Avalon was feeling, and without having any physical contact.
“She’s an empath,” I spoke aloud without meaning to. “Interesting.”
My words startled Eris, she spun around taking one look at me and ran off.
The sight of her running from me, whether it was from fear or not, warmed me in a place I've found that only the thought of her could recently. I wanted to chase her down and take her where she stood, to have my way with her and make her mine as she screams my name begging me for more until I finally allow her to have that blissful release.
“Calm down, I can smell your lust from over here.”
I let out a low growl.
“What are you doing here?” Avalon spat at Blake.
Something must be going on between those two. I have known Blake my whole life, Avalon just as long too. I was the only one that had caught on to her little puppy love as we all got older, Blake as well too, and when I brought up the idea of the two marrying my parents were fully on board. They seemed so happy on that day. I don't understand why they are acting this way.
“We need to talk and you’ve been avoiding me.”
“And you know exactly why that is.” she spoke in a low voice.
I watched the exchange between the two in confusion. What is going on? They shouldn’t be acting like this. Avalon stood grabbing her belongings along with Eris’s and stormed off.
