Chapter Fourteen The journey to the Control Level ended sooner than Art expected. The door opened, and they stepped out into darkness, again apparently in a back-of-the-transit-station crawlspace. “Why are we here alone?” Art said. “Why didn’t we come with the Crawlspacers?” “Because I’m the only one who can get on the bridge,” Shadow said. “And because I want you as close to the bridge as possible before the final assault.” Art stared at her back, a metre in front of him. “How can you get onto the bridge?” Shadow snorted. “Let it be a surprise,” she said. “Don’t you love surprises?” “Not in this case.” “You’ll understand when I do it,” Shadow said. “I don’t want you to know until then. In case something goes wrong and you’re captured.” Art glanced behind him at the empty corridor.
