My heart skipped a beat at the sound of a knock at the door. My pulse quickened as I took slow steps towards the door. When I cracked it open, Lucien and Kellen stood at the entrance, faces unreadable.
For a long moment, none of us said a word to each other.
From the way they both stood at the entrance, I could tell they weren’t sure if it was okay for them to cross the boundary and enter my dorm room. The hallway behind them was quiet, everyone had retired for the night. I stepped aside, silently inviting them into my room.
When the door clicked shut, the room suddenly felt tense and smaller than it usually was. Lucien and Kellen stood there, their eyes wandering everywhere but on me. Kellen licked his lips before he finally spoke, breaking the silence surrounding us.
