ELENA’S POV Lucien didn’t look up from his desk when I entered the office. When the door shut softly behind me, I was swallowed by silence. The room was dimly lit and the only source of light was the small lamp that sat on his desk. There was a sharp smell in the air, and it wafted through my nose the moment I stepped in. It was the scent of wine. Lucien was seated at his desk with his sleeves rolled up. His hair fell loosely over his forehead as he leaned to gaze at the documents that were spread across his desk.
