It's very late. All the lights are out. It's kind of dark Here inside my house. I was sleeping, Lost in a peaceful dream, But I woke up By Something. I heard a noise, I heard a tap, I heard a fuss, Something I haven't heard before I don't know what it was. I heard a sound, heard a scratch, heard a stir, It's not the dog and not the cat, It must be a monster! I'm a big boy. I'm not afraid. I'll go find that monster And tell him to go away, But all my tools, everything I'll need, Are in the toy box, across the room, So far away from me. I tie a rope from my sheets And throw them overboard. I didn't remember it being so far to the floor! we got to the ground Expecting a fight, But my dog and I Were alone in the night. We raced to the toy box Expecting an attack, But all we found were some monster tracks. We got our stuff, Flashlights and a dart gun And we put on sneakers In case we have to run. My faithful hound put his nose to the ground And on the trail, we creep Hunting the thing that made the noise That woke me from my sleep. I followed my dog, he followed the tracks, They went under my bed. There we found the monster And this is what I said, "Monster, you can't be here Making yelps and peeps. You must go find a new home So I can get some sleep."
