“You will stay here, and you won’t cause anymore problems,” Zayden stated. Imagine, being locked up by your mate. Alone. A pack animal, whose sole existence is being a part of the pack, rejected physically. Zayden walked inside and deposited me on what looked like a bed.
“I’ll have someone bring you provisions, but you will stay here until I decide otherwise,” Zayden told me as he took a chain and clasped it to my ankle, before leaving.
Let’s play a mind game, shall we? Maze asked.
If you wish, I will not oppose it, I told her. Maze might’ve killed all the witches, and vampires but that didn’t mean that mixed blood didn’t exist. Maze found a way to retain her witch blood while eradicating all witch blood in other wolves.
I will erase the memories of all who know that we are mated to the Alpha of Alphas. Maze told me before she began chanting in a language as old as time.
It is done, she said, almost an hour later.
What do they believe? I asked.
That you were delivered and assigned to this cottage. You are a warrior to be called onto only when the pack is in need. Maze responded.
What about this? I asked wiggling the chain on my ankle.
Child’s play, Maze responded as she took control and snapped the shackle in half.
The next weeks were quiet. I spent most of the time exploring the new pack, learning the boundaries, and more about the people within the pack. Aside from an Alpha’s children, defeated alphas, and past alphas would move here, pledging their allegiance to the current Alpha or fighting to lead, before joining the pack. Since erasing Zayden’s memory, he has chosen to parade Tracy around as if she is his destined mate. Maze often reminds me that she erased his memory and it’ll never return. My parents have joined me, leaving an opening for a new Alpha at Half Blood pack. Maze was encouraging me to enter the race to become the pack leader, knowing we’d meet Zayden if we won. The idea behind it wasn’t to rekindle the mate bond but to, instead, get far away from him.
What if I talk to Tracy, I asked Maze.
And say what? Hey I want to leave the alpha pack by becoming an alpha of my old pack so I don’t have to be your Luna? Maze said sarcastically.
Maze was right, but I knew that I had to win the fight. I was going to enter it regardless!
The hard knocking on the cottage door caught my attention, as I opened the door, I observed a palace guard.
“Yes?” I asked.
“Here,” he said as he handed me an envelope. I thanked the guard and closed the door.
Dear Carmen
You are here by invited to the Alpha Ball, hosted on Saturday.
This is where the battle to be the new pack leader of Half Blood Pack,
and the announcement of the Alpha Pack’s Luna, will occur.
We hope to see you,
Alpha King Zayden
Well now we know where we need to be, Maze said. I grunted in response. This was going to be interesting.
The ball is in 2 days, wanna go shopping? I asked Maze.
Do you really need an answer? she replied. Maze loved to shop, she actually does all of the shopping. I grabbed my purse and headed out the door.
The Alpha Pack has several dress shops, including a wedding dress shop. Maze made friends with one of the designers. As I let Maze take control, she walked us right to the shop.
“Cam! It’s so good to see you,” Meredith said upon our arrival.
“Maze today, is Megan in?” Maze asked.
“Oh, of course! I’ll let her know you’re here!” Meredith said before scurrying off to the next room. She was afraid of Maze, but who wouldn’t be?
Less then a minute later, Maze is greeting and hugging Megan and asking her for a one-of-a-kind dress that doubles as a dueling outfit. Megan face lit up like a Christmas tree.
“Darling, I already made you one! I had a feeling you would need one,” Megan explained, “follow me.” Megan took us to a wedding suit, “Sit there and I’ll go get your dress!”
Do you think it’ll match me or you? Maze asked.
You, she loves you, she doesn’t really like me…. I told her.
“Here you are!
The dress Megan presented was stunning, not to mention it was a wedding dress. Not something you’d want to wear to a ball, but I had to admit, the mermaid style dress would make anyone jealous.
“Thank you,” Maze said as she took the dress out of the bag and headed towards the dressing room to try it on. It fit like a glove. Hugging my torso until it flared halfway down my thighs. Maze stepped out of the dressing room for Megan to admire the dress on my body. “Perfect, now if you decide to pick a fight, there’s a zipper right here. This will drop the bottom skirt and open the dress enough for you to kick butt. You’ll also be able to put the skirt back on, and act as if it didn’t happen,” Megan explained.
With everything coming together, I couldn’t wait for the ball tonight!
As I walked into the pack house, I noticed something peculiar, there was a scent of citrus and pine that hit my nose, it was intoxicating. Weird, being that Alpha Zayden scent was freshly mowed grass, roses, and moss.
This’ll be interesting, Maze said as we walked in.
What are you talking about, Maze? I asked.
You’ll see, was her reply before cutting me off.
