Chapter 20: Melancholy
It is a solemn feeling. A hollow one that seeps into the deepest place of a person. It is an intrusive invader hellbent on sucking the life from its unwilling host. Grief. Lucas rocked with Kaya in his arms. Xia gently placed her hands against Kaya’s chest and closed her eyes. Her palms radiated a bright blue aura. Rin mixed herbal remedies nearby, almost ready to apply. Maya woke from her dizzy spell grasping her spinning head.
“Are you all right?” Dastan whispered.
Maya shook her head and glanced toward her sister. “It’s all my fault. I should have stopped this,” she said.
“Don’t do that. Blaming yourself is only going to make this situation harder than it already is. You can’t see everything. All we can do now is help manage Kaya’s wounds and move forward. Hop
