Chapter 17: Phantasm
The fearsome flames consumed the dying metropolis as the battles around the city intensified. When Dorian, Dain, and Kara finally arrived at the Mar graveyard only faint echoes of the city’s fleeing citizens carried in the distance. Despite the chaos, the graveyard remained unnervingly quiet. It was a land of the dead, unyielding in its silence.
“They’re here somewhere. Stay alert,” Dorian warned.
Dorian wandered ahead in search of Orthenius while Kara and Dain examined the graves. Kara stopped and kneeled next to two graves. She smiled sadly, gently pressing her fingers against the stone.
“Is that Zane’s grave?” Dain asked.
“Yes. He and his wife’s. They buried him next to her. I’m glad they found each other again,” Kara said.
