Chapter 6: The Road Ahead
Night quickly fell on the wounded city. The shock of the attack scared the townspeople into an eerie cautiousness. The streets were desolate, cinders still flickered from the recent fires. Lucas stood in his window, staying vigilant over the city. Kaya wrapped her arms around him from behind, resting her head against his back.
“We rebuilt it once before, Lucas. We can do it again,” Kaya comforted.
“It’s not that, Kaya,” Lucas replied, softly clutching Kaya’s hands.
